I’ve been waiting and hoping that Angelina Jolie would do some magazine covers and major interviews to promote Maria, and here we are. She covers the “Love & Fantasies” issue of CR Fashion Book, and Carine Roitfeld interviewed her. Surprisingly or not, the interview was as much about Atelier Jolie as Maria. Atelier Jolie is Angelina’s fashion collective, housed in Jean-Michel Basquiat’s old studio, using the talents of refugees and global artists and artisans. Most of the clothes Angelina is wearing in the editorial are from Atelier Jolie as well! Some highlights from CR Fashion Book:
On Atelier Jolie: “I wanted to build a collective with artists and designers who inspire me and are creating in a way that challenges overconsumption. Simon Ungless is a beautiful example of this; he has joined us in the atelier to share his craft and designs with our guests and has even printed on some of the pieces I’ve designed while he was teaching. Zolay Sherzad, the founder and creative director of the Afghan brand Zarif, designed and embroidered the jacket seen on the cover [of CR] with her network of Afghan artisans. It’s part of a capsule collection that showcases their beautiful technique, design, and culture. It’s exciting to see what happens when artists collaborate. There’s only one rule for our guests in residence: they cannot only create for themselves. They have to contribute to the community, to trade or teach or entertain.
Getting involved in humanitarian work in her 20s: “My mother was a very globally minded, thoughtful person, who often spoke to me about injustice. When I was in my twenties, I started to travel and realized how much I had not been taught in school or was aware of. I began my education, or reeducation rather, then. I began traveling to areas of conflict and post-conflict. Listening. Learning. My world view is very much shaped by refugee families, and I have so much respect for them. I hate it when I see the media and politicians using these families for their own gain. No one would choose that life.
Whether she watches her old films: “I don’t think often of the past and some of my films I’ve not watched. I love the process more than the outcome at times. The films where I have portrayed real people always mean more because there is greater responsibility. Sometimes when I see a clip of an old film, it’s like seeing a home movie and remembering places and friends.
Whether she has a mantra: “I don’t have a motto, but freedom has always been important to me. For myself and others.
Whether she still feels like a punk: “If punk means not to follow, but to question, then I suppose I do. The resistance to being told how to think, dress or feel is important to me.
A secret passion which makes her geek out: “Foreign policy. I suppose it’s why I direct the films I do. But I also like to be silly and love good standup comedy.
Her most recent tattoos: “I got “Stay Gold” with my daughter Viv during our time with The Outsiders. It means so much to us separately and together. There is also a Bird that I share with some of my children that is personal to us.
Playing Maria Callas: “Pablo expected me to really work very, very hard. And he expected me to sing. I went into classes six or seven months before…he expected me to learn, to really sing, to take Italian classes, to understand and study opera, to immerse completely and do the work, which of course for Maria, there was no other way. But it was much more than that, it was to understand Maria Callas and be able to play the character. The music was her life, her relationship to her voice and her body, her ability to sing, her presence on stage and her communication with the audience, it was her life. It was the key to her as well.
She got “stay gold” tattoos with Vivienne? Her teenagers are getting tattoos?? I wonder about the family bird tattoo – I would imagine a phoenix would be a bit on the nose, so maybe something else? A robin? Dove? Crow? Hm. As for Atelier Jolie, I’m fascinated by all of the cool stuff they’re making and how absolutely none of it is sold online. You have to physically got to the store/atelier in New York to buy something. While I have so much admiration for what she’s doing there, I also want this to make some money so it can become self-supporting. Sell some Atelier Jolie t-shirts! Sell online!

In 2022 and 2023 especially, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s communications strategy pissed me off regularly. They couldn’t decide if they should still play by “royal rules” and they missed many opportunities to shut down or clarify certain stories. The worst period of Sussex communications was the summer of 2023: everything during and after the paparazzi swarm in New York; Spotify dropping the Sussexes; the British media’s soap opera storyline about a Sussex divorce. All of that was woefully mismanaged. Thankfully, things have started to look up this year – the Sussexes have been more responsive, they launched sussex.com, they’re doing more brand-building and everything feels more professional and polished. Well, now the Sussexes’ Global Press Secretary is starting her own communications firm, and the Sussexes are her first clients. Oh.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Global Press Secretary and Head of Communications, Ashley Hansen, has unveiled a new venture that will continue to include the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
After working with the royal couple for over two years, Hansen is launching her own Los Angeles-based communications firm, Three Gate Strategies. The firm will specialize in offering bespoke communications services and brand management for a select group of distinguished organizations and individuals, including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Hansen will continue to represent and advise the couple as part of her new firm while providing strategic oversight to their international communications team.
“I am incredibly grateful to The Duke and Duchess for their continued trust in me. Their unwavering support and belief in my new firm has been meaningful and is a testament to their leadership. I knew when they first hired me that they were giving me the opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn’t be happier to continue working together,” Hansen said in a statement.
Beyond her work with the Sussexes, Three Gate Strategies will also handle communications for Meghan’s new business ventures and creative projects, including her upcoming Netflix show and lifestyle brand.
“We are so proud of Ashley, especially as a female entrepreneur. We look forward to having her focused expertise on our business and creative projects and her continued oversight of our communications team. My husband and I are excited to be alongside Ashley as she builds something extraordinarily special with her firm,” the Duchess of Sussex said in a statement on behalf of the couple.
The firm’s client roster now extends across industries, including entertainment, technology and finance. Meghan and Harry fully support the new venture, which originated after other clients approached Hansen seeking the same high-quality counsel that has been provided to the Sussexes. The Duchess of Sussex has been a vocal supporter of female-led enterprises, and this new firm joins the portfolio of women-led businesses she has championed since relocating to the U.S. in 2020.
This new chapter comes after significant growth within the Sussexes’ communications team earlier this year, with the appointments of Kyle Boulia and Charlie Gipson, senior-level communications executives based in Los Angeles and London, respectively. The team also includes longtime executives Miranda Barbot and Deesha Tank, who have been instrumental in managing the couple’s projects since 2022.
“…Which originated after other clients approached Hansen seeking the same high-quality counsel that has been provided to the Sussexes….” *looks into camera* I mean… I’ll be generous and say that we don’t actually know which strategies Ashley Hansen has suggested, only to see Meghan and Harry reject the strategies for various reasons. It’s possible that the Sussexes’ comms strategy could have been a lot better if they were taking Hansen’s advice instead of going with their gut instinct “ignore it and maybe it will go away.” Or that old chestnut of “never complain, never explain.” As for what this means for the Sussexes… it’s not some big change. Hansen will still be focused on the Sussexes and Archewell, but now she’ll do it as the head of her own firm.
PS… You know how this will be reported over there, right? “The Sussexes have lost another staffer!” “Duchess Difficult drove her press secretary out of a job!”
Garth Brooks has been married to Trisha Yearwood almost 19 years. This is Garth’s second marriage, and he’s father to three daughters with his first wife. Garth has been quieter in recent years, although he did perform at President Biden’s inauguration in 2021. Well, Garth is now facing accusations of rape and battery by his former hairstylist and makeup artist. Garth has already released a statement, which is folded into CNN’s reporting:
Country music star Garth Brooks has been accused of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit from a “Jane Roe” who says she worked as a hairstylist and makeup artist for the award-winning singer. The complaint, filed in a state court in California on Thursday and obtained by CNN, states the alleged incidents occurred in 2019. She claims she was once raped by Brooks during a work trip.
In a statement to CNN later on Thursday, Brooks said, “For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of — ugly acts no human should ever do to another,” he added. “We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides.”
Prior to Roe’s filing and as first reported by CNN, an anonymous celebrity plaintiff – now disclosed to be Brooks – had tried to block Roe from publicly repeating her allegations and fiercely denied the claims, according to a previous complaint he had filed as a “John Doe.”
Roe began handling hair and makeup services for Brooks in 2017, according to her suit, which states that she was first hired to do hair and makeup for his wife, Trisha Yearwood, in 1999. In addition to sexual assault and battery, the suit accuses Brooks of repeatedly exposing his genitals and buttocks; talking about sex and sharing sexual fantasies with Roe; regularly changing his clothing in front of Roe; and sending sexually explicit text messages.
In her filing, Roe claims that during one alleged incident in 2019, when she was at Brooks’ home for work, he walked out of the shower naked, “grabbed her hands and forced them” onto his genitals, while speaking to her with sexually explicit and vulgar language.
In another alleged incident in May 2019, the suit alleges that Brooks raped Roe in a hotel room during a work trip to Los Angeles where Brooks was taping a Grammy tribute performance.
I truly hope that Garth is being falsely accused, but I don’t know. I really don’t. Believe women, and let’s hear the accusations in full and hopefully the lawyers and the court will figure out what’s really going on. Like… my gut says that Garth is absolutely capable of cheating and even saying inappropriate sh-t, which would constitute harassment. But rape and assault? I don’t know.
Former Representative Liz Cheney and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, have both endorsed Kamala Harris. If you told me back in 2000 that the Cheney family would be all-in on a Black and Indian-American Democratic presidential candidate, I would have called you crazy. People can really surprise you. Liz Cheney absolutely disagrees with President Biden and VP Kamala Harris on some big policy issues. Some would say that Liz Cheney disagrees with VP Harris 95% of the time… but I don’t think it’s that much. It’s more like 80/20. But Liz Cheney was also part of the January 6th Committee, and she fully understands the unique danger Donald Trump presents to America. She understands, as does her father, that the first task is simply saving the country from a megalomaniac fascist. The Cheneys didn’t bargain with VP Harris or the campaign, they didn’t withhold their endorsements until Kamala did this or that. They just endorsed for the good of the country. On Thursday, Liz Cheney appeared at a Harris campaign event in Wisconsin. Her speech was wonderful, and she was visibly moved by the chants of “thank you Liz.”
What I love about Cheney’s speech is that she’s not compromising on her beliefs whatsoever. There’s no snide comment about “holding her nose to vote for the lesser of two evils,” there’s no Republican conspiracies, there’s no sniping about this or that. She calls Kamala Harris a patriot and speaks of what Harris’s leadership will bring for the country. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Liz Cheney is a profile in political courage. Now, do I also think that if Kamala Harris wins, Liz Cheney is likely to get a cabinet position? Probably. But I doubt that has been explicitly bargained or requested.
It is an honor to have the endorsement of @Liz_Cheney.
The vast majority of us agree: We must hold sacred America’s fundamental principles. If you share that view—no matter your political party—there is a place for you in this campaign.

Here are some photos of Prince William at the reopening of Birtley Community Pool. William was joined at the event by several British Olympians, including Adam Peaty, Louise Fiddes and Tom Dean. This is, I believe, the first in-person event William has done with or for British Olympians after the Paris Olympics. William did not attend the Olympics, nor did he hype British athletes during the games, nor did he wish them luck before the games. The only thing he and Kate did around the games was make a little video congratulating the athletes, which they posted on the final day of the games. To be fair, the Paris Olympics happened smack in the middle of the Waleses’ two-month summer holiday, and they refuse to do any work at all during their summers off. One of the first questions William was asked was why he didn’t go to the games:
Prince William says that he didn’t attend the 2024 Paris Olympics because he “didn’t want to risk” contracting COVID amid his wife Kate Middleton’s chemotherapy treatment.
The Prince of Wales, 42, made the revelation while visiting the reopened Birtley Community Pool in Tyne and Wear, England, on Oct. 3. Many speculated that Prince William would appear at the global games in France over the summer to cheer on his country, as many other European royals did, and he explained that he wasn’t there out of a desire to protect his wife’s health.
“Did you manage to get out [to Paris]?” British Olympic swimmer Tom Dean asked Prince William at the pool on Oct. 3, Hello! reported. The inquiry came up during a conversation with his fellow 2024 Paris Olympian Adam Peaty and Paralympians Maisie Summers-Newton and Louise Fiddes.
“No, I was so keen to come, but I have to say after reading someone’s interview about COVID I decided, because my wife was obviously having chemo, that I didn’t want to risk bringing COVID home, so Adam very kindly reminded me that that was still a thing!” Prince William said, according to the outlet.
“But we watched the whole thing. We were glued to it every day,” he added, apparently referring to his family. The Prince and Princess of Wales are parents to Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, and have evidently passed down their passion for sports.
“Adam very kindly reminded me that that was still a thing.” Yeah, this summer had a big Covid wave in North America and Europe. Covid was everywhere at the Olympics. Covid was everywhere before the Olympics too. Which is why it’s weird that William’s Covid concerns were solely and conveniently about the Olympics and not, say, the EUROs, where William flew to Germany to watch several times in July. Or Taylor Swift’s London concerts, where William took Charlotte and George. Or the crowded Royal Box at Wimbledon, where Kate sat for several hours for the men’s final. It sounds more like William was never planning on going to Paris and he only realized he could use “Covid concerns” as an excuse after the fact, after several athletes got Covid at the games.

Sean Combs is now facing a lawsuit with over 100 victims, in addition to the federal charges he’s now facing. Between the civil and criminal cases, we will soon hear the names of Combs’ predator friends and co-conspirators. We will hear who else took part in Combs’ “freak-offs” which involved drugs and rapes. I’m genuinely asking people to show some patience here – wait until we hear the names. Wait until Combs starts naming names too, because I doubt he will want to go down alone. It minimizes the crimes and the victims’ stories to act as if every single person to ever party with Combs is somehow guilty of being a predator. Combs partied with a lot of people. Very few of those people were invited to the freakoffs. Well, speaking of, Us Weekly has this story about Denzel Washington and his wife.
Denzel Washington once stood up to Sean “Diddy” Combs after an all-night party in 2003. A source who was friendly with Diddy, 54, in the early 2000s exclusively shared in the latest issue of Us Weekly that Oscar winner Washington, 69, and the music mogul got into it during an all-night gathering.
“Denzel screamed, ‘You don’t respect anyone,’” the insider recalled.
The incident ended in Washington storming out. “[Denzel and his wife, Pauletta] had been partying until dawn [with Diddy], and they had seen something and stormed out,” the source added. Us Weekly reached out to Washington and Diddy’s reps for comment.
Years later, after facing several sexual assault and abuse allegations, Diddy was arrested in September. He was later charged with sex trafficking and racketeering. Diddy was denied bail after pleading not guilty and was remanded to stay at the Metropolitan Detention Center until his trial. He has denied all allegations.
We don’t know what Denzel saw, what the context was, or what else was said. We do know (from photos) that Denzel stayed friendly with Combs for a few years after whatever happened in 2003. That being said, there are no photos of Denzel and Combs hanging out in a social situation past 2004, unless you could Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration, where Combs was seated behind Denzel.

Well, friends, after denying it on their podcast for the last ten months, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have finally moved in together. In the past, they’ve spoken about how they’re not sure if they’ll get married and despite T.J.’s separation anxiety, they weren’t quite ready to move in together yet. They need to resolve some things, like the appropriate place to watch TV at 2:00 a.m. However, fate and circumstance has forced them to give cohabitation a try after Amy’s older daughter, Ava, 21, needed to quickly and unexpectedly move out of her apartment after a cockroach infestation. After Amy suddenly found herself with a full apartment, she decided to move in with T.J. full-time.
“Robach and I have been living together full time as of two weeks ago,” T.J. said on the Sept. 30 episode. “It was not by choice.”
The 47-year-old went on to credit the newfound living arrangement with Amy’s daughter, Ava, 21, whom she shares with her ex-husband Tim McIntosh. The New York-based couple have apartments within walking distance to one another, but Amy, 51, has recently moved into T.J.’s home full-time.
“Ava has an apartment in the Village,” Amy explained of her daughter. “It has a massive roach infestation.”
Sharing that her daughter has a “hoarder” living in the apartment next to her, Amy noted that Ava has come home to find roaches all over her apartment, including in her sheets. As T.J. explained it, “Armies of roaches making their way from his apartment to hers.”
And when Ava saw roaches coming in through her air conditioning unit, she decided she had to vacate the property.
“They are getting a new apartment in this building away from this man, this hoarder, but in the meantime, I’ve got people all in my apartment living with me,” Amy explained. “So I’ve just said, ‘Hey, y’all, knock yourselves out. I’ll be at T.J.’s.’”
Amy, who is also mom to daughter Annalise,18, shared that Ava is supposed to be moving out of her apartment this weekend.
“This is what you do for your kids. I know you’re excited to be able to help them out,” T.J. said of his girlfriend. “I’ve enjoyed the time we’ve had together. It’s been a little different, but I’ve liked it.”
Amy agreed, saying, “It’s been great.”
However, there’s one living condition that the couple can’t seem to agree on.
“It’s too damn cold at night,” T.J. insisted. “That’s an issue.”
Amy noted, “That’s always been our issue. I like things cooler, you like things warmer.”
It was really nice of Amy to let Ava and her roommates stay at her place. I would have noped out of there and burned the whole apartment down the second I saw those roaches in my sheets, let alone coming out of the air conditioning vent. That’s so gross. I’m not sure I’d even want to stay in the same building to be honest. I wonder if Amy will move back into her apartment after Ava leaves. Or at the very least, hold onto it so that her younger daughter, Annalise, 18, has a home base to go back to when she’s home from the University of Colorado Boulder. At the very least, I’m sure T.J. and Amy will get a good two-to-seven months of podcast content out of their cohabitation experiences.
As for their disagreement about the temperature, I think it’s funny that Amy’s the one who runs hot and T.J. is the one who likes to keep the thermostat higher. My mom and I both like it warmer and my husband and dad both like it cooler. Although with the Nest app, it makes it so much easier to adjust the temperature without instant detection. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve heard, “Put on a sweater!” over the course of my lifetime, lol.
Every awards season, we complain about how various movie awards are structured, the weird rules, the implicit racism. But the Oscars and the critics’ awards are practically transparent compared to the Grammys and how the Recording Academy decides who gets nominated and who wins. There’s so much secrecy and BS. Well, as soon as Beyonce released Cowboy Carter, we knew it was Beyonce challenging the way country music is recognized and awarded. The Country Music Awards have already shown their ass by refusing to nominate Beyonce for anything. Will the Grammys double-down on the racism? Well, maybe not?
Queen Bey’s latest album, Cowboy Carter, will compete for best country album while Carpenter — whose pop star breakthrough came with the release of her sixth album this year — will appear on the ballot for best new artist, according to a source.
The Recording Academy held its screening committee meeting last week, where members determined the categories in which albums or songs will compete, as well as who qualified for best new artist, where Carpenter is the frontrunner along with Chappell Roan. Over the years, the Academy has updated the rules for best new artist to keep up with the ever-changing music industry, and in the past it has been criticized because it placed a song and album limit, disqualifying certain performers.
Other best new artist contenders include Shaboozey, Benson Boone, Teddy Swims and Megan Moroney. First-round Grammy voting begins Friday until Oct. 15. Nominations will be announced Nov. 8 and final voting is from Dec. 12, 2024, through Jan. 3, 2025. The live show will air on Feb. 2, 2025, from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Beyoncé’s submission to best country album comes seven years after the Academy’s country committee rejected her twangy song “Daddy Lessons” from 2016’s Lemonade. Last month, the 43-year-old singer was heavily snubbed at the CMA Awards, where she received zero nominations for Cowboy Carter and its No. 1 single “Texas Hold ‘Em.” She also lost in the 17 categories she was nominated for at last week’s People’s Choice Country Awards.
If Beyoncé — the most decorated artist in Grammy history — earns a best country album nod, it would be her first in the genre and she would become the rare artist who has scored nominations across multiple genres at the Grammys. At the 2017 show, she made history with Lemonade as the first artist to garner nods in the rock, rap, R&B and pop fields in the same year.
For whatever record, Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are not technically new artists. But whatever – they’re using that category to reward artists who have had a breakout year. BNA should go to Shaboozey anyway, which is why you know it will go to Chappell. As for Beyonce finally being included in the country music categories… I assume that she will get nominated once the ballots are tallied, but there will probably be backlash either way. Speaking of, Luke Bryan was asked this week about the CMAs snubbing Beyonce and Cowboy Carter. Luke said something kind of bizarre (he was really nervous, he knows about the Beyhive):
“Everybody loved that Beyoncé made a country album. Nobody’s mad about it. But where things get a little tricky … you know, if you’re gonna make country albums, come into our world and be country with us a little bit. Beyoncé can do exactly what she wants to. She’s probably the biggest star in music. But come to an awards show and high five us and have fun and get in the family, too. And I’m not saying she didn’t do that. But country music’s a lot about family and then there’s still… but it ain’t always family, too. We get pissed at each other, too.”
Beyonce literally made an excellent country song (Daddy Lessons) eight years ago and performed the song at the CMAs with the Dixie Chicks and country music fans made it clear that Beyonce isn’t welcome in their world and that she didn’t “belong” on stage at the CMAs. That’s the whole reason why Bey made Cowboy Carter – she was reclaiming space in country music. “Come to an awards show and high five us and have fun and get in the family, too…” Try inviting her. Ask her to perform “Texas Hold ‘Em” at the CMAs. Welcome her into your toxic bro-country club. Oh wait.
For several years now, the British tabloids have been trying to make one particular storyline stick: David and Victoria Beckham “hate” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Report after report, tabloid story after tabloid story, lie after lie, this has been pushed and analyzed and scandalized. I personally don’t believe that the Beckhams and the Sussexes were that close to begin with, but the two couples were probably friendly enough at one point, and Meghan even wore an item from Victoria’s collection in Colombia recently. Last year, Tom Bower (that crazy old man) basically ranted about the two couples in an entire book. Then the Mail underlined the real point of all the stories: the Beckhams were being told to sever their ties with the Sussexes, or else David would never get his longed-for knighthood. David did as he was told and he’s been cozying up more and more to King Charles and Prince William, including acting as William’s plus-one at an event this week. Now Richard Eden at the Mail has added yet another chapter onto this ridiculous soap opera:
Prince William and David Beckham were seen sharing a private joke at RAF Northolt, in West London, this week as they inspected two London Air Ambulances bought with money they had helped to raise. No one knows what so amused the former England football captain and the heir to the throne, who served as a pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance from 2015 to 2017. But Prince Harry will hope that it was not a joke at his expense. David, 49, was once so close to Harry, 40, that he and his wife, Victoria, were among the guests when the prince married Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, in 2018. But the Beckhams have now distanced themselves from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for reasons that are even more fascinating than anyone outside their circle realises.
‘Both David and Victoria put great importance on family and would never, ever turn on their relations the way that Harry and Meghan did,’ one of their associates tells me. ‘The truth is that Victoria never really liked Meghan much. She was friendly and welcoming to her but is not bothered about staying in touch.’
Given that David owns a football club in Miami and the couple have an increasingly prominent position in American society, it might seem natural that they would join the court of Harry and Meghan. Instead, the Beckhams are sticking with the Windsors.
If power couples were like football teams, this match would be a 2-0 result to William and Catherine.
This whole thing has been so stupid from the start. While David is clearly doing whatever he needs to do to get that knighthood, I honestly don’t even believe that he or Victoria have any strong feelings about Harry and Meghan, at all. If David and Harry ran into each other, they would probably be perfectly pleasant to one another. Same with Meghan and Victoria. They’re adults and this is asinine. This is also William’s ego trip, this is William screaming “DAVID BECKHAM IS MY FRIEND, AREN’T YOU JEALOUS, HARRY???”
