There is, in my mind, still a lot of doubt about just how much contact Prince Harry has with the Windsor clan. I think he speaks to his father often enough, but it would not surprise me at all if Harry and William barely had any contact, and that Harry merely communicates with his grandparents through official channels. Like, I think it’s notable that Harry went through official channels last year to request that a wreath be laid at the Cenotaph and he was refused by the Queen, through official channels. I would guess that it was the same way when Harry informed the palace about Meghan’s miscarriage too – just a call to the Lord Chamberlain or someone like that to inform them that the news was coming out. So who did Harry call for the baby announcement?

The Queen led the royal family tonight in congratulating Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the couple announced they were expecting their second child. The monarch, 94, shared her joy along with the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and ‘the entire family’ after the the couple announced they were preparing to welcome a brother or sister for their young son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: ‘Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and the entire family are delighted and wish them well.’

It is understood the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told the royal family in advance of making the news public.

[From The Daily Mail]

While the Palace statement came out like 30/40 minutes after the Sussexes’ announcement, there were royal reporters claiming that the Sussexes’ announcement took the palace “by surprise,” or that the palace was only informed of the pregnancy minutes before the announcement. Considering all of the palaces leak like sieves, I would assume that Harry probably did inform the palace on Sunday, maybe an hour before the announcement or something like that. I also think it’s notable that the only statement is coming from Buckingham Palace and that they’re speaking for the whole family? Like, Charles has a huge communications staff at Clarence House. Charles didn’t think to issue his own “I’m hugely pleased to have another grandchild” statement? And again, radio silence from Kensington Palace. I bet they had some idea that Meghan is pregnant (just reading the tea leaves like all of us) and that’s why we got that story about Kate and William trying for a fourth.

The Sussexes had told the Royal Family their happy news but the announcement tonight appeared to catch staff by surprise. But the palace has now responded, saying: “Her Majesty, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the entire family are delighted and wish them well.”

The Sussexes had apparently told the Royal Family their happy news, but not, it seems, that they would announce it. Tonight’s announcement caught officials off guard, with no prepared statements. But everyone is “delighted” incl the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince of Wales.

You all know my love for Rege-Jean “the god” Page and his umm performance as the Duke Hastings. I have even wondered what the man smells like (not really but I like to joke about it). But alas, Rege-Jean is shattering the dreams and fantasies of middle-aged thotianas after getting papped with his girlfriend on the streets of London over the weekend. I am sorry to tell you the man is taken and his cab light is off.

Rege-Jean was photographed canoodling on the street near the home he shares with longterm girlfriend, “writer and footballer” Emily Brown. The Daily Mail reports that Rege gave her a peck before jumping into a car to be taken to the airport to fly to NY for a project. Perhaps Rege-Jean was on his way to host his episode of SNL with Bad Bunny in his new Icy Park gear that was sent to him from Beyonce. We know for sure that his trip abroad wasn’t for Bridgerton. Below are a few more details about Rege’s romance with Emily:

Until now, the 31-year-old actor’s steamy sex scenes with co-star Phoebe Dynevor, who portrays Daphne Bridgerton, have been given an extra frisson for smitten audiences by the actor’s apparently single status.

But he was last week spotted embracing writer and part-time footballer Emily Brown in a street close to the £800,000 home they share in North London.

Dressed in a black coat and green scarf to keep out the cold, he tenderly held his 30-year-old lover’s face before wrapping an arm around her.

Ms Brown, who was insulated in a blue quilted coat and white chunk- soled boots by US designer Steve Madden, plays for South-West London’s FBB Warriors and supports non-league side Dulwich Hamlet, whose woolly hat she wore for her stroll with her boyfriend.

Shortly after their embrace, Mr Page clambered into a chauffeur-driven car. He is understood to have flown to New York for another filming assignment.

[From Daily Mail]

Seriously Rege, how you gonna do me dirty like this? Ya’ll know I have been the resident middle-aged thotiana on Celebitchy since Bridgerton dropped in December. I have truly enjoyed bringing you all the business on the Bridgerton cast, specifically Rege-Jean. But I am no Penelope Featherington who sits around pining away for a man who doesn’t even know I exist. Sigh, this news hurt me to my core this Galentine’s Day but I shall recover. I am sure there is some other fine specimen out there whom I will never meet or be near that I can fantasize about. At this point, Rege and I have broken up. I wish him well with his new love, but my heart will go on.

Hopefully this news has not dashed your hopes but the man did purchase a very expensive home in London with this woman so this seems to be one of those “for real” relationships. With that being said and all joking aside, I am glad to read that Rege is in a relationship. The last time I checked in he was rumored to be dating actress Antonia Thomas but I knew they had broken up. The way Rege was going on about being alone in L.A. you’d think he was single. It is all good, I wish the Duke the best of relationship luck with his “new” flame. In the meantime I’m gonna go on the hunt for my next crush.

Sorry, ladies… Bridgerton’s dashing duke Regé-Jean Page, 31, already has his duchess https://t.co/isqzM72hJW

KatDenningsOnKimmel

Kat Dennings is in WandaVision, which keeps getting more entertaining and layered with every episode. It’s really grown on me and while I’m not a Marvel person and barely understand the backstory, I appreciate what they’re trying to do with that show. Kat plays Darcy Lewis, a scientist and technology expert who was first introduced in Thor and also appeared in Thor: The Dark World. Kat was on Jimmy Kimmel live, where Jimmy tried to pry some spoilers out of her. She wouldn’t budge, saying she barely knows what’s going on. I believe her! There are so many Easter eggs, theories and nuances in that show and it’s been a lot of fun for people to unpack. She did tell a creepy story about the fact that she lived in an historic home in Pennsylvania from the age of seven to 15. She said that it was open for tours and that they would sometimes have them when she was home as a kid. Enough strange things happened that she thinks it was haunted though, and she believes it’s still haunted to this day.

On her childhood home being an historic landmark
It was built in 1694. It was the first house in the township. It was an historical landmark. It had a plaque on it. The historical society would do tours through our home. Sometimes a little car filled with sweet old ladies would come. They would walk past me eating my corn flakes in the kitchen. When we lived there they would just walk through as if it were a museum, but it was our family house. I think my mom just loved that part of it. She kept it really nice and pristine.

She says it was haunted
This was a haunted house. It was haunted as hell. I saw some stuff. There were some intense experiences there like lights going on an off and things going missing and showing up weird places. The cold. I did see some – I just don’t want to seem like an insane person on television right now.

I haven’t [been back] but my brother has because this house is now an Air BNB. He took his wife to show her our childhood home. They stayed in my room. I also lived in the attic, but they were so creeped out that they left under cover of night. They just felt weird.

[From Jimmy Kimmel Live]

This is convincing to me because she said it but refused to elaborate because she didn’t want to sound crazy. Plus her brother and his wife felt some stuff there too, decades later, and couldn’t even stay overnight! Things have to be really bad for you to leave a B&B in the middle of the night, you know? I’m getting chills thinking about it, but part of me tries to tell myself it’s just mold or there’s another logical explanation. That’s how I sleep at night. I think I found the home as she mentioned the town she grew up in. I’m not going to link it, but it’s very easy to google. It’s expensive to rent at nearly $800 a night as it sleeps 14. It’s a brick home with an addition. That reminds me of my friend’s historic log cabin home. I’ve stayed there alone watching her sweet dogs and it has such noticeably positive vibes. She says when anyone stays there they tell her that the energy is really good and they can feel it. Some homes have good energy, some are bad!

Here’s that interview!

Kat makes me want to try cat eye liner again. I always screw that up and I tried the stamp thing and didn’t like it either.

Taraji P. Henson has been giving me life this last year. I have enjoyed watching her tackle mental health awareness in the Black community and encouraging self-care. I was excited when she announced that she was dropping her own hair care line but I didn’t know how serious my girl Taraji was about hair care. Recently, I discovered that Taraji treats her hair care days as self care days and often carves out four hours to chill in her ensuite hair salon to do her hair. Ya’ll, I don’t even like spending ten minutes on my own hair which is why I keep cutting it off. I feel like I am failing at life (tears). While scrolling through YouTube, I came across a recent video that Taraji did for Harper’s Bazaar about her natural hair journey. In the video, Taraji talked about how she transitioned from relaxing her hair to natural hair. She also showed some of her new products (for which I plan to purchase) and how she styles her new asymmetrical cut. Taraji said that she often cuts her hair because hair holds energy. Below are a few excerpts from the video:

The body wave is all about creating texture and making your hair look like it has movement.

I used to perm my hair. My mom was a single mother. It was rough, my hair texture is very different from my mother’s and she really had an issue working with it. So my mom started perming my hair when I was six. I had my hair permed when I was 26. When I moved to LA and did this movie Baby Boy the hairstylist on [that movie] talked me into going natural. I didn’t know how to work with my hair. It was rough. I cried, the brush was stuck in my hair.

I met this hairstylist [on a show], Valerie Green, she taught me how to work with my natural hair. It was tedious, but once I got it down I fell in love with my natural hair. Back then in Hollywood it wasn’t cool to rock natural hair, they wanted straight European hair. I would still have to press my hair, which is kind of defeating why you go natural. The perimeter of my hair started breaking off from trying to get it straight and match the weave hair. I was over it. I quit and cut my hair all off. I fell in love with my natural hair when I first grew the perm out. That’s how I ended up with natural hair and I love it.

Hair holds energy. 2020 was a hoot, I had to cut her out.

[From YouTube]

First of all, I have been daydreaming about dyeing my hair magenta for months now (after the “trying to dye my hair grey” mishap). Seeing the color on Taraji I am sold and will definitely dye my hair magenta this summer. I too cut my hair or change it in some way after I go through a trying time in life because I feel like the trauma or pain got caught in my hair. I know it’s a bit woo but it feels freeing every time I cut it off. I remember when I cut off my locs after growing them for three years. One of my besties had a melt down about it too (lol).

I also loved how Taraji walked through how she styles her hair and it is so cute how much fun she had discovering how well she is at creating those waves and curls. I own every single one of the combs she uses and I think I have that small flat iron too. Honestly, Taraji can pretty much sell me on anything. I just love listening to her talk. I definitely plan to buy a few of the products she discusses in the video from her Taraji line like the Honey Fresh shampoo, the Master Cleanse, and the Never Salty scalp sugar scrub once I run out of my current products. Right now I am using Chebe Hair Oil from Chad for thickening my hair along with Argan Oil for my scalp but I definitely need to step up my scalp care game since I suffer from dermatitis that causes my scalp to peel.

I’ll definitely follow up with you all on how well Taraji’s products work or not. But listening to her talk about her hair care and product knowledge makes me believe that her own hair care line is going to be exactly what I need. Anyhow, I’m gonna go see if I can find a wig that color until my hair grows out and I can dye it magenta. The ancestors always know what I need, sending me Taraji as inspiration.

A post shared by Harper’s BAZAAR (@harpersbazaarus)

Just ahead of Thanksgiving last year, the Duchess of Sussex wrote a New York Times op-ed where she spoke about how she had a miscarriage in July 2020. We had suspected, around that time, that she was pregnant, and we were so sad that she and Harry lost the pregnancy. Many people declared that they would not bump-watch, but there was a certain energy around Harry and Meghan in the past three or four months or so. That energy was… we’re totally fine in LA, don’t bother us, we’re not traveling. We only saw Meghan from the shoulders up once or twice during that time too. So… yeah. She’s pregnant! HURRAY!

Congratulations are in order for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex! The royal couple are expecting their second child together, a spokesperson confirms to BAZAAR.com.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for the Sussexes revealed on Sunday. The couple shared a new photo taken remotely by their longtime friend, the photographer Misan Harriman.

[From Harper’s Bazaar]

I’m overjoyed for them! I’m so happy. This is why Meghan’s lawyers asked that the trial date in her lawsuit get pushed back as well, and it’s also one of a million reasons why Meghan showed zero interest in returning to the UK in May and June. Judging from the size of her bump, her due date is probably around then!

Omid Scobie pointed out that Princess Diana announced her pregnancy with Harry on Valentine’s Day in 1984 (he was born in September). That’s the kind of throwback we love!

Anti-Trump protesters gather in Jupiter

Yesterday was the final day of Donald Trump’s impeachment trial. There was the possibility, for a few hours, of the trial being extended long enough to call witnesses, with Trump’s lawyer threatening to depose Kamala Harris in his office in “Phillydelphia” (he really said it like that). There were Republicans – like Lindsey Graham – threatening to, like, call Hunter Biden and Hillary Clinton as witnesses, because of course. So in the end, no witnesses were called and the Senate just did the flat vote on impeachment. Donald Trump was acquitted.

A Senate still bruised from the most violent attack on the Capitol in two centuries acquitted former President Donald J. Trump on Saturday in his second impeachment trial, as all but a few Republicans locked arms to reject a case that he incited the Jan. 6 rampage in a last-ditch attempt to cling to power.

Under the watch of National Guard troops still patrolling the historic building, a bipartisan majority cast votes finding Mr. Trump guilty of the House’s single charge of “incitement of insurrection.” They included seven Republicans, more members of a president’s party than have ever returned an adverse verdict in an impeachment trial.

But with most of Mr. Trump’s party coalescing around him, the 57-to-43 tally fell 10 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict, and allow the Senate to move to disqualify him from holding future office.

Among the Republicans breaking ranks to find guilty the man who led their party for four tumultuous years, demanding absolute loyalty, were Senators Richard Burr of North Carolina, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Patrick J. Toomey of Pennsylvania.

[From The NY Times]

There were a lot of people mad at Democrats because the Dems… didn’t call witnesses in the end, which I guess some people saw as “caving” to the Republican minority. But I think Dems knew that if they dragged in a million witnesses, they would be dragging things out, hampering President Biden’s agenda, and none of it would matter to those 43 bootlicking fascist senators. Besides, it definitely feels like there’s something different in the air… something like criminal prosecution. Donald Trump is apparently “privately concerned” about facing criminal charges too. As much as I hoped for President Biden to appoint a special prosecutor to oversee the criminal prosecution for the January 6th insurrection, Biden’s statement didn’t mention anything like that. I don’t think an independent counsel or special prosecutor is in the cards.

Also, Turtleman Mitch McConnell can f–king spare me the quivering indignation. He voted to acquit, and then he had the nerve to speak about how Trump really did incite that sh-t.

Eugenie Jack wedding Windsor

On Friday, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank left Portland Hospital, about three full days after Eugenie gave birth to Baby Boy Brooksbank. Since Portland Hospital is a private hospital and since Eugenie isn’t married to a future king, there was no photocall outside of the hospital or anything like that. Some photographers did get some snaps though:

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are all smiles as they leave the Portland Hospital with their son #royal pic.twitter.com/tiWzPw0skx

— Jesal Parshotam (@therealjesal) February 12, 2021

Very cute. I hope Jack is a safe driver! Precious cargo! Anyway, for the past two months or so, we’ve been absorbed in the very strange drama of where Eugenie and Jack are living, and why they seemingly moved out of Frogmore Cottage shortly after they moved in. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to lend Frogmore to E&J in what was seen as a final nail in the coffin for Meghan and Harry returning to the UK this year. Considering how much Harry and Meghan “paid” back for Frogmore, it’s theirs to sublet to whomever they want. So why did E&J move out? And why are Eugenie and Jack… back at Frogmore?

Princess Eugenie’s newborn son is following in his second cousin Archie’s tiny footsteps as he’s settled into the Windsor home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Harry and Meghan lent Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, the use of Frogmore Cottage as they begin their new lives as parents.

The family of three left London’s Portland Hospital, where Eugenie gave birth on Tuesday, on Friday. Archie was also born at the same hospital in May 2019.

Frogmore Cottage, which Harry and Meghan renovated from five separate staff quarters into their 10-bedroom home, is the perfect place for Eugenie and Jack to spend their first days as a family of three. The property is close to Royal Lodge, where Eugenie’s mom, Sarah Ferguson, and dad, Prince Andrew, live, which means the first-time grandparents can be on hand to help when COVID-19 restrictions allow. And it’s a short walk from Eugenie’s grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, at Windsor Castle.

[From People]

The timeline is this: in November, we learned that Eugenie and Jack had already moved into Frogmore, which caused a lot of consternation and weird press. By mid-December, we learned that E&J had moved out of Frogmore and they were living at the Royal Lodge, with Prince Andrew and Fergie. And yet, there has been some indication for weeks now that E&J moved back into Frogmore. Outlets like Hello Mag kept referencing the idea that Frogmore really is E&J’s new (borrowed) home. So what happened behind-the-scenes? It’s still a big royal mystery. I still believe that either the Queen or Prince William tried to throw their weight around and ban E&J from Frogmore but something else must have happened too. I wonder.

Daisy Ridley covered a recent issue of Tatler to promote Chaos Walking, a “dystopian thriller” coming out in March. Daisy went through a lot of crap during the entire Star Wars run, but she’s trying to build her post-Star Wars CV and she sounds like she’s in a better place these days. For a while there, she was just under a ton of strain, some of it from outside forces and some of it self-inflicted strain. In this interview, she talks about how directors have always perceived her as “aggressive” or “intimidating” when she’s simply… existing and speaking. She’s a tiny little thing and she really has whole-ass powerful men running scared because she has some opinions, huh.

Being called intimidating on the set of Chaos Walking: ‘I’ve been told that I’m intimidating. “I was having my hair done, having my wig put on, I remember thinking, “God, should I be smaller? Should I be quieter?”’

Being called aggressive: “I’ve been called aggressive, too; my energy is ‘quite aggressive’. That was during a meeting with a director. I was thinking: ‘But why? Is it because I maintained eye contact? Is it because I’m passionate about what we’re talking about?’ I dunno. You have that horrible sinking feeling of, God, do I not come across the way I think I do?”

On keeping her private life on lockdown: “When I signed on to Star Wars, there was nothing in my contract that said: ‘Your life will be talked about’”, she said, telling the magazine she has tried hard to keep her romantic life out of the headlines. “It got to the point where I realised so much of my life was out there…People knew my mum’s name, my dad’s name, what my sisters do for a living. And I thought it would be nice to have something that’s for me, that isn’t for everybody else. I just thought I would keep that separate.”

[From The Evening Standard]

Daisy is 28 years old. How old were you when you began to understand that your male bosses and male coworkers were actually gaslighting you when they told you that you’re “intimidating” and “aggressive” for simply speaking and existing? I got that for most of my life, even when I was younger and pretty shy – men/boys would read my silence and shyness as intimidating and threatening. Then when I would speak up, that too was intimidating and aggressive. At some point, every woman just comes to the realization that it’s not about your looks or what you say or don’t say. There are just tons of men who are always going to say you’re intimidating or aggressive or threatening simply because you’re a woman. That’s it. That’s the aha-moment.

Biden Remarks on “the Public Health and Economic Crises”

Jessica Chastain covers the January/February cover of Shape to promote the many projects she’s got coming out this year, including The Forgiven, The Eyes of Tammy Faye (where she plays Tammy Faye Bakker) and The 355, the international lady-spy film she put together several years ago. In this interview, she mostly talks about what she’s doing during the pandemic and her career goals – you can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

She spent a lot of quarantine time at home with her family: “It was great because my grandma was with me, and I got to spend time with my family. My mom has been with us a lot too. But I miss my girlfriends so much. I miss going out to dinner, just the girls. I miss getting a cocktail, sharing secrets, and getting advice from everyone. I’ve really been missing that sense of community.”

She did workouts with her grandma: “During quarantine, I did [trainer] Isaac Boots’ Torch’d workouts with my grandmother, who is in her 80s. It was such a breath of sanity during that time to do it every morning with my grandma. And she really helped me be accountable.

She’s a vegan: “I became a vegan about 14 years ago. At the time, I was very low energy, and I remember getting sick. I was making one of my first films, in which I had to play different ages of the character’s life, and I wanted to change my body accordingly. So I would gain weight and then lose it really quickly. After that, my body was wrecked. A friend said, ‘You should try this two-week vegan raw-food diet.’ I hated it. The first week, I was so miserable. But by the second week, I had so much energy. When the two weeks were over, I was like, I’m done! I went to a restaurant and ordered risotto and fish. And that night, I felt sick again. I decided that my body was clearly telling me the way it wanted me to eat. I was raw vegan for about nine months. Now I’m just vegan.

She loves to cook: “I love to cook — so much that I went to the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York in 2012 and took the intensive chef-training program. In the winter I like to make soups and stews and anything roasted. I’m also really into food as medicine. Licorice root tea is my jam during COVID-19, because licorice is really good for your immune system.”

She fasts one day a week: “I don’t want anyone to misinterpret this or do anything that’s unhealthy for them, but it’s really important for me to fast one day a week. I do a green-juice fast every Monday. I like to start my week in a quiet place, listening to what’s going on with my mind. It’s a sense of giving myself a moment to be clear and allowing my body to reset. It helps me start the week.”

Why she chooses to do certain films: “That’s something I’ve thought about in terms of movies I’ve done, like Interstellar, playing the physicist who solves the equation of gravity. Or The Martian, where I was the commander of the mission to Mars. Those images of women in media are incredibly important to me. In the last five years or so, I’ve asked myself, ‘What am I choosing? Am I showing women in a light that is different from what has been shown? How can I move the conversation forward?’ I was doing it in particular for young girls. But it’s important to do it for young boys as well. Because boys and men should be comfortable seeing women in these roles. Otherwise, we’re denying them the realization that the feminine is powerful and strong.”

[From Shape]

I think, realistically, I could probably fast for a day or do a juice cleanse for a day, but that day could never be MONDAY. Monday, the start of the work week, when everything feels a little bit “off,” when your computer crashes or there’s some technical problem somewhere or everything just feels slower. No. Mondays are when you need to self-soothe with caffeine, carbs and sugar, whatever gets you through. I could fast on, like, a Wednesday or Thursday though. As for Jessica’s veganism… I couldn’t do it but God bless. I don’t get how two weeks of veganism meant that she was suddenly super-sick when she ate a piece of fish, but vegans always have stories like that.
