LOUISVILLE, KY - MAY 05 - Barnstable-Brown Celebrity Gala - Kentucky Derby

As we now know, Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley are engaged. Rodgers announced that news over the weekend, and the whole thing was so secretive, people even questioned whether Shailene was actually his fiancee. Despite some weird “everyone in Green Bay knew!” after-the-fact gossip, it really does seem like this entire relationship – and now engagement – has taken people by complete surprise. People Magazine’s sources are kind of emphasizing how fast this happened, and how people thought Shailene was just a rebound when they started dating… right after his breakup with Danica Patrick.

Just days after Aaron Rodgers announced that he was engaged, those close to the 37-year-old Green Bay Packers quarterback say they were shocked to learn that he and actress Shailene Woodley got so serious, so fast.

“It was a surprise that they got so close so quickly,” a source close to the athlete tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “I mean, it really felt like one day he was with Danica Patrick, and then suddenly he was with Shailene. It happened super fast.”

Rodgers and former race car driver Patrick split in July of last year after two years together, Patrick’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE at the time. Woodley was last linked to rugby player Ben Volavola, whom she reportedly met in Fiji while she was filming the movie Adrift. She revealed that they had split in an April 2020 interview with the New York Times.

Insiders say that Rodgers and Woodley immediately clicked over the summer and began spending a lot of time together.

“It was so fast that at first, we thought she was just a rebound,” says the source close to Rodgers. “There was no way this could be so serious. Everyone thought it was a casual thing because that’s what he was telling everyone, even when it was clearly not a casual thing.”

Just days before the NFL Honors event, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE that Rodgers has been dating Woodley. One source told PEOPLE that Rodgers seems very happy with the 29-year-old Big Little Lies star.

“Now we realize that it was clearly a lot more serious than they told anyone,” says the source to PEOPLE. “All this goes to show that this must be a very special relationship for him and for her. So everyone wishes them happiness.”

[From People]

If you like reading between the lines, it does seem like there was some overlap between his relationships with Danica and Shailene, and the sort of confirmation that Aaron and Shailene were seeing each other and getting very serious LAST SUMMER. Very suspicious. But yeah, I’m fully prepared for all of the “when you know, you know” people to come out of the woodwork, but I think Aaron is just kind of a “messy personal life” guy. Good football player, charming, charismatic, handsome, intelligent… and messy in romantic and familial relationships.

Well well well. Apparently, the Duchess of Sussex has won her summary judgment in her lawsuit against the Mail. I said earlier that the vibe I had been getting for the past few months was that powerful levers were being pulled all over the place so that Meghan’s lawsuit against the Mail wouldn’t open up an even bigger can of worms. Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace did not want their staffers to be called in to testify, nor do they want the inner-workings of who said what to whom in what palace, all about Meghan and the situation with her unhinged, toxic father. So Justice Warby shut most of it down, finding that the Mail on Sunday did infringe on Meghan’s copyright by publishing her handwritten letter to her father. A UK legal commentator, Joshua Rozenberg, has a good Twitter thread, and here’s Sky News’ coverage:

Meghan Markle has won her privacy claim against the Mail on Sunday over the publication of a “personal and private” handwritten letter to her estranged father, Thomas Markle. In a High Court judgment on Thursday, Mr Justice Warby granted Meghan “summary judgment” in her claim for misuse of private information against the publisher of the Mail on Sunday and MailOnline over the publication of the letter.

The judge said: “The claimant had a reasonable expectation that the contents of the letter would remain private. The Mail articles interfered with that reasonable expectation.”

He said that “the only tenable justification for any such interference was to correct some inaccuracies about the letter”, contained in an article in People magazine which featured an interview with five friends of Meghan. But Mr Justice Warby added: “The inescapable conclusion is that, save to the very limited extent I have identified, the disclosures made were not a necessary or proportionate means of serving that purpose.

“For the most part they did not serve that purpose at all. Taken as a whole the disclosures were manifestly excessive and hence unlawful.”

[From Sky News]

I don’t understand why Justice Warby continued to allow the Mail to widen the scope of their defense further and further – when it was clear the Mail’s lawyers were on a fishing expedition to supply more information for publication – only to now reel everything back in and declare that it’s pretty obvious that the Mail did infringe on Meghan’s copyright. Oh well – a win is a win. Let’s celebrate!

Update: The judge’s ruling is kind of complicated – while Warby did find that her copyright was infringed, there are still parts of the case which will go to trial. But this is still a major victory. We’ll have further coverage when I figure out exactly what happens next.

Meghan won summary judgement on the privacy claim in full & copyright claim in part. The Judge ruled that a “trial limited to issues relating to ownership of copyright” should proceed. Mila Kunis is still promoting Breaking New in Yuba County, which starts streaming tomorrow. She’s also still giving interviews from the cavernous stone space in her house that looks great, but the acoustics, oi! I’m delighted to get to see a glimpse in these folks beautiful homes but not when I need to listen to what they’re saying. Mila called Ellen DeGeneres and talked about the movie, which she did as an excuse to work with Allison Janney. (I mean, who wouldn’t?) She also confessed she’s still feeling guilty about using the Cheeto commercial she filmed as an excuse to get away from her kids during the pandemic. Plus, she admitted she and husband Ashton Kutcher picked the wrong year to observe Dry January.

On getting the offer for the commercial
I was literally like, ‘I don’t care. I need to get out of this house!’ I looked at it as a two-day vacation. I was like, ‘We’re getting out, we’re going to shoot this thing and we’re going to get away from our children.’ I’m a horrible mom.

How weird it was to shoot the commercial
We showed up, it’s really uncomfortable. You’re not wearing a mask, you feel really vulnerable. You feel like a lemming – no is allowed to talk to you, you don’t talk to anybody. You don’t know what anyone looks like. It’s a bizarre circumstance. Then I was pretty convinced I had COVID. Knock on wood it didn’t happen and I got two days off from my kids. I’m a horrible mom.

I love my kids very much, but they’re like dogs. They can sniff you out. They know your smell, they know what room you’re hiding in. You can’t get away from them. You just can’t. They’re just there!

On Dry January
That quickly turned to wet February. Dry January was a terrible idea. When the insurrection happened we’re like ‘this is a mistake. We made a mistake’

[From two videos on Ellen on YouTube]

As a parent I would use any excuse to get out of the house right now. If my kids were safe and I was relatively assured I would be safe while gone, you wouldn’t believe what I’d agree to. I wonder if Mila actually feels this guilty or feels like she just should keep saying it. It sounds like all precautions were taken and everyone is fine – I don’t think Mila needs to beat herself up anymore. Also, I saw the commercial they filmed. I’d feel guilty about the final product over anything that led up to it. I posted it below. Shaggy’s awesome, he always is. And I know I will get my feminist card revoked, but I love that song. Ironically, my husband and I used to joke about rewriting the lyrics so we could continue to sing it when the kids were young. So I should have loved the ad. But the execution was only okay. And OMGawd, whoever decided to let Ashton sing should be sent back to the mail room right now.

As for Dry January, I can kind of relate. I do usually observe Dry January, but we didn’t even consider it this year. Not because of 2020, although that would have been a factor otherwise, but my migraines have cut our drinking in half already. A month with no alcohol isn’t really a rarity anymore, so we don’t need to schedule it. On January 6th, all I wanted was a drink. I even thought about a martini after not having hard alcohol in almost a year. But I could tell the stress of the day would mean a certain migraine if I had anything at all, so I rode it out sober as well. Like Mila, I can’t say I was happy about it. But remembering back on my Dry Januarys, yes, they did make the first weekend in February very wet. Almost like, what was the point?

Taylor Swift’s fans starting making noise on Twitter last night when Good Morning America announced that she’d be appearing on today’s show – and when it comes to a star as big as Taylor, it’s never going to be a small thing. Immediately there was speculation that it had something to do with her rer…

Trump Speaks to Representatives of each Branch of the Armed Forces including Space Force

CNN has a story up about how Donald Trump has shown no remorse for inciting an insurrection, and that he’s never going to apologize. Which I guess is notable, except we are so far past apologies, right? Like, it really makes no difference to me if Donald Trump apologizes or acknowledges that his words and actions directly led to a terrorist attack on the Capitol. He did, we can prove he did it and he should be impeached, arrested and thrown in prison like the white supremacist terrorist he is. CNN also reports that Trump and Mike Pence still haven’t buried the hatchet since Trump sent armed terrorists to the Capitol to murder Pence and his family. Again, I don’t care about the interpersonal stuff. I am curious to see if Pence testifies though.

Some other Trump news… remember just days before Trump incited the insurrection, we learned that he exerted pressure on Georgia state officials to ratf–k their election results? The call happened on January 2nd, and one of the Georgia Republican officials on the call recorded what was happening and turned the audio over to the Washington Post. In the audio, Trump is blatantly committing election fraud and demanding that Georgia’s secretary of state Brad Raffensperger “find” 11,000 Republican votes out of thin air. Well, it took about six weeks, but they’re finally opening up an investigation into it:

Prosecutors in Georgia have started a criminal investigation into former President Donald J. Trump’s attempts to overturn Georgia’s election results, including a phone call he made to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Mr. Trump pressured him to “find” enough votes to help him reverse his loss.

On Wednesday, Fani T. Willis, the recently elected Democratic prosecutor in Fulton County, sent a letter to numerous officials in state government, including Mr. Raffensperger, requesting that they preserve documents related to “an investigation into attempts to influence” the state’s 2020 presidential election.

While the letter does not mention Mr. Trump by name, it is related to his efforts to change the outcome of Georgia’s election, according to a state official with knowledge of the matter. A copy of the letter was obtained by The New York Times.

Of particular note in Ms. Willis’s letter was the wider scope of the investigation. Potential violations of state law include “the solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office and any involvement in violence or threats related to the election’s administration,” the letter states.

The state official said that, in addition to the call to Mr. Raffensperger, Ms. Willis’s inquiry would encompass Mr. Trump’s outreach to other Georgia officials in an attempt to reverse his loss. These include a call to a top elections investigator in which Mr. Trump asked the official to “find the fraud”; a call in which Mr. Trump urged Gov. Brian Kemp to call a special session of the legislature to review the election results; and a conversation with the attorney general of Georgia, Chris Carr, in which Mr. Trump warned him not to interfere in a Texas lawsuit seeking to overturn the results in Georgia and other states.

The investigation will also look into the events surrounding the abrupt resignation in January of Atlanta’s federal prosecutor, Byung J. Pak, after Mr. Trump complained to Justice Department officials that Mr. Pak was not pursuing his claims of election fraud, the official said.

[From The NY Times]

In retrospect, it’s even more remarkable that Georgia officials ended up certifying their election results with such a relatively slim margin for Joe Biden. Plus, at the same time, two special elections were happening for the Senate seats, and both went to Democrats. During that same time period, Donald Trump was making multiple calls and repeatedly threatening and harassing Georgia’s Republican officials. It’s genuinely insane.

WaPo released the full call on YouTube on January 5th.

If you follow Serena Williams on Instagram or Snapchat, or even if you watched Being Serena a few years ago, you have seen bits and pieces of her home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The thing is, Serena quietly sold that property at the beginning of this year, and now she wants to show off the massive new mansion she bought for herself and spent years renovating. LOL – so much for moving to California with Alexis, which is what she promised him before they were married. To be fair, I think Alexis is fine with it. He knows how important it is to be around her family, all of whom are Florida-based. Speaking of, Serena got her sister’s interior design firm to decorate her new mansion. You can see the Architectural Design photos of the interiors here. I like the spaces and colors, and the design is sort of somewhere in between gauche and reserved.

Serena Williams purchased a sprawling waterfront property of her own, with breathtaking views in a coveted enclave north of Miami, just minutes away from Venus and their parents. To help make the house ideal for her own family, naturally she turned to V Starr, Venus’s world-class design firm.

“I was moving away from Venus for the first time in my life, so I wanted it to be really meaningful,” Serena says. While mixing family with business can be risky, the secret to their success as siblings and creative collaborators is simple: “You have to know your lane. I’m really good at playing tennis; I’m not as good at interiors. But I was able to learn through just watching Venus.”

As with any other client, Venus says, her priority was catering to Serena’s vision—which did a complete 180 during the design process. After she purchased the 14,500-square-foot Spanish Mediterranean–style home, Serena’s traditional tastes suddenly felt out of step with this new phase of life. She credits her love of modern art and technology for ushering in a more modern, minimalist aesthetic. Then, of course, there was the burgeoning romance with tech tycoon Alexis Ohanian. The high-profile couple had only recently begun dating just after Serena embarked upon this massive real estate project, but Sonya Haffey, principal of V Starr, says Serena’s future family goals were an integral part of the design plans all along.

Last July—after three years, including a gut renovation—Serena finally moved into the completely reimagined, ultra-modern, intracoastal property with a husband and toddler in tow. As the old adage goes, “If you build it, they will come.” Though, they all maintain, it was mostly Serena’s singular imagination—with guidance from V Starr—that spearheaded the design.

“We had just met,” Serena says regarding Ohanian. “And I wasn’t going to be like, ‘Hey, let’s do this together.’ That would have been really weird for him,” she says with a chuckle. “Yeah. That would’ve been kind of creepy,” Venus chimes in.

[From AD]

I’m sorry, I love that Serena and Venus just did this mansion by themselves without any input from Alexis. That’s hilarious to me. “You know how I said I would move to California? Yeah, I demolished and rebuilt a Florida mansion and this is our permanent home now and no, you don’t get a say in how I decorate it with my sister.” Venus built a Karaoke Room in the mansion for Serena but there’s no attached tennis court or anything. Which doesn’t surprise me? Serena and her family have owned their own tennis court property in Florida for years.

I could honestly watch this forever. I love her. Everybody’s talking about her trophy room but what you have to understand is that those are only a fraction of her trophies!! Chica has won over 70 trophies in JUST singles. She’s also got more than 20 doubles titles. And where in the world are all of her Olympic gold medals?

I’ve always heard that Priyanka Chopra had a lot of plastic surgery in her early years, but before now, I’ve never really gone back to look at her really early photos. You guys, she was STUNNING before her surgeries. Maybe it’s because I also have an “Indian nose,” but she was so beautiful with her original nose, my God. In Priyanka’s new memoir, Unfinished, she writes about why she went in for her first nose surgery, and why she’s had multiple surgeries to correct that original botched surgery.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is getting candid about the botched surgery she underwent in the early 2000s that left her feeling “devastated and hopeless.” Not long after catapulting to global fame when she was crowned Miss World 2000, Chopra Jonas, 38, began to develop a “lingering head cold” in the summer of 2001, which at the time she believed was simply a “very bad sinus infection.”

“I was having trouble breathing. This is a problem someone with asthma can’t ignore,” the star wrote in her new memoir, Unfinished, available now. She ended up seeing a doctor recommended by a family friend, who discovered a “polyp in my nasal cavity that would need to be surgically removed.”

At the time, Chopra Jonas felt thankful that a polypectomy “sounded like a pretty routine procedure,” but unfortunately for her, it didn’t go quite as planned. “While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me anymore,” she said.

The procedure left the star feeling “devastated and hopeless,” she wrote. “Every time I looked in the mirror, a stranger looked back at me, and I didn’t think my sense of self or my self-esteem would ever recover from the blow.” Dealing with the aftermath of the botched surgery was made even more difficult due to her newfound stardom. She remembers the media giving her a nickname — “Plastic Chopra” — after her surgery. “Let’s just call it out right now. Immediately the name started to show up in articles and newspaper items and it has followed me my entire professional life,” Chopra Jonas said.

While she felt “dared to give an explanation for the obviously different nose” over the years, Chopra Jonas decided to “draw a line” and simply keep it private. “I am an entertainer. That’s what I’ve signed on to do, and that’s what I love doing. I will say my lines, dance my dance, hit my mark. I’ll do my best to make you laugh, and I’ll do my best to make you cry, but just because I’m a public person doesn’t mean everything about my life has to be public knowledge. I get to choose what I share and when I share it,” she wrote.

She ultimately ended up getting multiple corrective surgeries to fix the damage that was done during the polypectomy, and now, the star feels like her “nose normalized… While it took a few years of seeing a stranger gazing back at me every time I looked in the mirror, I’ve gotten accustomed to this face. Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I’ve made peace with this slightly different me,” Chopra Jonas said. “This is my face. This is my body. I might be flawed, but I am me.”

[From People]

I mean… that’s her story, and I have no evidence to dispute her story. I’ll say this though – it’s quite common in India, and in the Indian-American and British-Indian communities, to get nose jobs. There are so many mixed feelings within the Desi community about Indian noses and, simultaneously, people who get nose jobs to get more Anglo-looking noses. Priyanka’s right though, the nose drama really changed her whole face. I can’t get over how beautiful she was with the OG nose though.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did a joint Zoom call this week, please talk about how keen they are, please please please. This joint Zoom call was to highlight the plight of nurses during the pandemic, and they spoke to a nursing studen named Abigail, who works at a hospital in Northern Ireland. Abigail had made a video about “a day in her life” and William and Kate saw the video and they were very keen about it.

? For nursing students, studying and undertaking placements during the pandemic has been a challenge like no other.

There were two more videos posted online of Will and Kate talking to student nurses about what they’re learning about how to help and treat Covid patients, but it’s all pretty normal and obvious stuff. What I keep thinking about is… how differently William and Kate behave versus the respect they show to the medical and nursing community. Like, I’ll totally buy that William and Kate genuinely want to personally thank nurses and doctors and frontline workers. I believe that the Cambridges want to highlight the stories of these essential workers. But then, every opportunity that William and Kate get, they make complete and utter asses of themselves by breaking lockdown rules or going on that asinine Maskless Covid Choo-Choo Tour. And don’t forget that they wandered the Pantoland red carpet maskless too!! Deeds not words.

Trump Departure for Alamo, Texas

Taylor Swift is so obsessed with her personal numerology that she decided to crash an already hectic news week. Today is 2/11, and 2 + 11 = 13, her favorite number, her lucky number. So today we got the long-awaited announcement: Taylor has re-recorded her album Fearless, which was one of the albums bought by Scooter Braun’s corporate consortium in the purchase of Big Machine. Taylor’s fans knew that she was working on re-recording her first six albums as a way to screw over Scooter Braun, who owns the original masters of all of those albums. The intention is to get the Snake Fam to buy up the new-old albums and devalue the Braun-held OG masters.

Taylor Swift made a brief appearance on Good Morning America today to share big news: More music is coming—old new music, actually. The singer revealed that the highly-anticipated re-recording of one of her biggest singles, 2009?s “Love Story,” will come out at midnight. She is also releasing her full re-recording album of Fearless soon, and it will have 26 songs—more than the 13-track original. She didn’t specify its exact release date yet.

“I’m so excited to share with you that tonight at midnight, I’ll be putting out my version of my song ‘Love Story,’ which was originally on my album Fearless,” Swift started. “I’ve now finished re-recording all of Fearless, which will be coming out soon. My version of Fearless will have 26 songs on it because I decided to add songs from the vault, which are songs that almost made the original Fearless album, but I’ve now gone back and recorded those so that everyone will be able to hear not only the songs that made the album but the songs that almost made it, the full picture.”

The singer’s note included a hidden message. If you string together the capitalized letters, it spells out “April Ninth”—April is the fourth month of the year, and 4+9 = Taylor’s lucky number of 13.

[From Elle]

So she announces the re-recording on 2/11 and the Fearless re-recording will come out on 4/9. What will happen on March 10th though? I wonder! Oh well, at least she’s actually giving the Snake Fam even more new material, in the form of newly recorded old songs which never made it onto the original Fearless album. I’m actually very curious if Taylor is going to “fix” some of the mistakes from the original recordings – meaning, I wonder if she’s not just doing this to screw over Braun, but she genuinely wanted to change up the productions or arrangements on certain songs. Also, will she call this album Fearless too? Fearless 2? Fearless Redux? Fearless: Rise of the Snakes?
