A post shared by Glin Castle (@glin_castle)

I’ve only just seen it now, but did you know that Glin Castle has an Instagram account? It’s pretty amazing. If you find it relaxing to look the well-decorated interiors and well-maintained exteriors of castles and grand old properties, you should definitely check it out. Glin Castle is the ancestral home of Catherine FitzGerald, who is descended from Irish aristocrats. She’s also married to Dominic West, the actor who very publicly cheated on his wife with Lily James last year. After a few bizarre photo-ops together, Catherine did what most aristocrats would do: retire to her ancestral castle and pull up the drawbridge. It doesn’t seem like Catherine is going to leave Dominic whatsoever. But she is trying to get him to move full-time to Glin Castle.

Dominic West’s wife Catherine FitzGerald has revealed she is trying to convince the actor to move to her family seat in Ireland months after their marriage was rocked by scandal. Speaking in the March issue of Tatler, Catherine, 49, said she would like to live full-time at Glin Castle, which sits on a 400-acre estate in Co Limerick. The castle has been in Catherine’s family for 700 years and has famously played host to Taylor Swift, Sir Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull.

‘I can’t persuade Dominic to move there altogether yet, but I’m working on it,’ Catherine told the magazine.

Catherine and Dominic – who made headlines last year when he was seen kissing co-star Lily James, 31, in Rome – also have a home in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

The landscape gardener is the eldest child of Desmond FitzGerald, the 29th Knight of Glin, who died in 2011 with no son to inherit his title.

‘The title can skip a generation and my son [Senan, 12] could be the next Knight of Glin,’ Catherine explained. ‘But he’s just mad into football.’

[From The Daily Mail]

So Catherine wants her son to have the Knight of Glin title. I suspect she’ll get what she wants, on all accounts. Maybe that will be the trade-off with Dominic too: she won’t divorce him, but they have to move full-time to Ireland. Where it would arguably be harder for him to gallivant and cavort with pretty young actresses. The thing is, Dominic would probably just start banging Irish lasses, right? He’ll always find a side-chick. Catherine should just leave him and raise the kids in Ireland and tell him to f–k all the way off.

The Dig

I haven’t seen Netflix’s The Dig yet, but I’m looking forward to it. It’s the true story of the massive historical find of an Anglo-Saxon ship buried at Sutton Hoo in England, which was dug out on the eve of World War II. It stars Carey Mulligan as the owner of the land, and she brings in archaeologists including Peggy Piggott and Basil Brown, played by Lily James and Ralph Fiennes. Peggy Piggott was a real archaeologist and a female pioneer in the field of archaeology. But The Dig apparently makes her seem like a bumbling sidekick and people are mad!

Netflix’s The Dig is getting slammed for its portrayal of archaeologist Peggy Piggott, calling the movie sexist. Archaeologist Rebecca Wragg Sykes blasted the film, telling The Times that the movie belittled the famous archaeologist by making her into “something of a sidekick to her older husband, Stuart.” The movie follows the story of one of Britain’s greatest finds: the unearthing of the Anglo-Saxon ship burial at Sutton Hoo.

Lily James plays the 27-year-old excavator alongside Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan. As one scene shows, James as Piggott tells her boss she “hasn’t done much fieldwork” and then proceeds to clumsily crash her foot through the top of an Anglo-Saxon ship’s burial chamber. “On the whole she is presented as deferential, even bumbling, putting her foot through a hollow feature,” Wragg Sykes describes. Though, she claims that’s not who the famous woman was in real life. In fact, she says Piggott was highly experienced. The film is based on the historical fiction novel about the dig written by Piggott’s uncle John Preston. He claims that allegations that the young wife was “bumbling” are untrue. “She was 27 when she did the dig in real life so to suggest that she was a grizzled professional is pushing it a bit,” he says.

[From Pop Culture]

The Peggy character sounds like a messy and lazy characterization of someone who was probably quite badass for the time. Looking at the photos, the film really leaned into the dumbest tropes too – they hired a beautiful blonde actress, gave her a brunette wig and oversized glasses and then they made her clumsy and vapid. Voila! She’s a bumbling nerd who doesn’t know she’s hot and she’s desperate to be “taught,” all of which will placate the big strong men. Ugh.

Look, the most generous-to-neutral observation that I can make about these nominations is that there are an awful lot of nominees whose names start with C. The category for Best Actress in a Drama includes Colman, Comer, and Corrin. You know who it doesn’t have? Coel.Yeah, I know that’s not her cat…

Andie MacDowell attends the premiere of "Ready Or not" in Los Angeles

I dyed my hair Monday. I use Clairol Nice and Easy and am on a 3-4 week schedule. (I tried a dye by mail service but it didn’t cover well enough for me.) I’ve been going gray for at least 20 years and would be almost completely gray if I didn’t dye it. That’s why I dye my hair light blonde, so the gray doesn’t show. Anyway I’ve considered letting it go gray, as my mom did that around my age and keeps encouraging me. Now that more women are letting their hair go gray, it feels like more of an option. Andie MacDowell, 62, was on Drew Barrymore’s show remotely when she talked about her new salt and pepper look. She said that it doesn’t feel like letting herself go and that it’s kind of empowering. Andie has two daughters, Rainey, 30 and Margaret, 26, and a son, Justin, 34, from her first marriage to Paul Qualley. (Unfortunately Andie’s daughter Margaret has been seeing Shia LaBeouf. I hope she’s ok.) Andie told Drew and Ross Mathews that her daughters kept telling her that her hair looked bada-s and that’s why she kept it. She also said that we’re going to come back like the roaring 20s and party so hard. I got goosebumps when she talked about that.

In a clip from “The Drew Barrymore Show” published Monday, MacDowell opened up about her decision to stop dyeing her hair in coronavirus lockdown, while showing off her curly silver locks.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen in five years,” she said. “I might color my hair again, but I’m enjoying it right now.”

Host Barrymore opened the segment by referencing a USA TODAY report about women who say they’ve felt liberated from societal beauty standards and are embracing relaxed looks in quarantine.

MacDowell, 62, said she could relate.

“What happened was, I wasn’t coloring my hair, and it was half-colored back here,” she said, touching the back of her head. “You could see my roots, and my daughters kept telling me that I looked bad a–. And the idea that I could look bad a– really appealed to me. So I went for it, and I am enjoying it.”

MacDowell also noted that she prefers a specific descriptor for her natural hair color.

“I always correct people: ‘It’s not grey, it’s silver,’ ” she said. “It’s not that I’m letting myself go. I don’t think of it that way.”

And going silver has its perks, said the actress, recalling how she and a fellow “silver fox” shared a moment at the grocery store.

“I went to the grocery store, and I saw a man there, a ‘silver fox’ guy,” she said. “I immediately just put my shoulders back, and I was like, ‘And so am I,’ you know? We both just shot a look to each other. It’s like, I’m a silver fox. That’s where I am right now.”

“I think people are going to come back like the roaring 20s. I think we’re going to come back and we’re going to be so glamorous. And we’re going to be dressing up and… just wanting to be with each other. I think we’re going to party like crazy people.”

[From USA Today some quotes from Youtube]

I have always loved Andie and found her aspirational. If I had seen this interview before Monday I might not have dyed my hair! She also gave me so much hope when she talked about how fabulous we’re going to be when this is over. Also Ross said that he likes to wax and do his own pedicures and it makes him feel better about himself. I agree with that so much. I am still shaving my legs, doing my hair and putting on makeup every day. It’s just part of feeling like I’m put together. Plus I Zoom with people all the time, so in a way I see more people than I did before. I’m so looking forward to getting a haircut though. I’ve only had two in lockdown and with the new variants I’m afraid to go back. My mom’s hairdresser in Florida died of covid and I’m not going to risk it. Getting back to Andie, it sounds like she’s close to her daughters and like she’s doing very well.

Here’s that interview segment!

To date, Adam Driver has been an unexceptional celebrity. Despite starring in one of the world’s biggest franchises last decade, he is capable of disappearing between projects. 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Media Center

I tweeted this last night so I might as well write about it! If you follow Deuxmoi on Instagram, they post a lot of blind items, random celebrity sightings and gossip theories. There’s apparently a theory that Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are spending time together lately, as she films the second season of The Morning Show. Brad is – allegedly!!! – filming Bullet Train on a studio set close to TMS’s set. I mean, Brad is for-real filming Bullet Train right now and Jennifer is for-real filming The Morning Show right now. But I don’t know if those two sets are close together, or close enough where Brad could just drop by her trailer constantly. But that’s the theory going around Deuxmoi.

At this time last year, Jennifer was helping Brad Pitt campaign for his ultimately successful Oscar campaign. Brad won every major Supporting Actor award for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Jennifer was around several of those award shows because she was nominated for The Morning Show. They “acted flirty” and he went to her Christmas party and they made sure to tease their fans with the possibility of a reunion. It’s been months since they finally stopped with the vintage uncoolness. My point? I think they’re still friendly enough to help each other out within the industry. And Jennifer is absolutely the kind of woman who would “take him back.” But are they actually happening? I don’t know.

Also, Deuxmoi posted this (which I guess was from Aniston’s IG Stories) and some people think that’s Brad in the background. Hm.

The Duke Of Sussex Carries Out Green Beret Presentation

One minor thing I like to keep my eye on is which British outlets are breaking which stories. This week, the Telegraph had the exclusive story about Archie Mountbatten-Windsor’s birth certificate mix-up, and how Meghan’s American staffers are likely to blame for either Meghan’s BC name change or the statement about the Palace “dictating” the name change to Meghan. Now the Telegraph has another (paywalled) exclusive about Prince Harry being desperate to keep his military titles/honors. My point? Buckingham Palace is leaking to the Telegraph, and this story is what those fussy, nasty old BP courtiers want to believe:

Despite stepping away from royal duties and relinquishing some of his honourary titles, there are a few that Prince Harry is eager to hang onto. The Telegraph is reporting that the Duke of Sussex is hoping to have three military titles reinstated that he was forced to relinquish, pending a one-year review.

Those three honourary titles — Captain General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington and Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command — are one of the few issues yet to be resolved following he and wife Meghan Markle stepping down from their royal duties.

“His military work is one of the most important things to him,” a friend told The Telegraph of why these particular titles are of such high importance to him. “Of course he wants to keep them.”

When the duke and duchess made their bombshell announcement last year, Harry reportedly expected to spend more time travelling back and forth between Britain and his new home in America; the pandemic, however, slammed the brakes on those plans. A palace source confirmed he’ll likely be forced to give up the titles, as the Queen made it crystal clear at last year’s Sandringham summit that a “one foot in, one foot out” approach to the couple’s royal duties was unacceptable. Despite all that, Harry reportedly believes that his 10 years of military service and his continuing affiliation with the Invictus Games Foundation aid his efforts to keep the titles.

[From The Telegraph via ET Canada]

Again, just punishment after punishment. The Windsors have narrowed in on what will hurt Harry the most, and the Queen has been holding this over his head for a year now. “Come back and I’ll let you keep your military titles” versus “stay with Meghan and we’ll continue to punish you.” Anyway, I tend to believe that Harry was prepared to leave all of this behind. Sure, he’s sad. Sure, he would love to continue to represent the British military, especially given that he’s a veteran who served overseas in war. But Harry also knows how petty and small his family can be, and he was prepared to make this bargain for freedom.

Trump visits FEMA headquarters for a briefing on Hurricane Laura

One of the weird things about Donald Trump’s impeachment trial – which starts next week – is that I feel like all of the federal and state jurisdictions’ investigations into the Trump family have gone temporarily quiet. My dream was that the indictments would rain down starting on January 21st. But I think people are waiting to see what happens with the Senate trial, and then there will be moves beyond that, no matter what. Interestingly enough, Scotland is taking steps to investigate the Trump family’s shady financial situation right now. Donald Trump has poured a lot of money – none of it his own – into building up his Scottish golf resorts. And now Scotland wants to investigate the finances of those golf clubs, and Eric Trump is throwing a massive tantrum about it.

On the eve of a parliamentary vote on whether an investigation should be ordered into the financing of Donald Trump’s Scottish golf resorts, the former US president’s son has castigated politicians for “advancing their personal agendas”. Eric Trump issued the bulletin as the Scottish parliament prepares to host a debate called by Patrick Harvie, the co-leader of the Scottish Greens. The Trump Organization’s executive vice-president also described Harvie as a “national embarrassment”.

Harvie is urging the first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, to seek an unexplained wealth order (UWO) in relation to Trump International, a course in Aberdeenshire, and the famous Turnberry resort in Ayrshire. If granted via courts, a UWO compels businesses or individuals to detail the source of their wealth.

“The Scottish government has tried to avoid the question of investigating Donald Trump’s wealth for far too long,” Harvie told The Scotsman. “There are serious concerns about how he financed the cash purchases of his Scottish golf courses, but no investigation has ever taken place. That’s why I’m bringing this vote to parliament. The government must seek an unexplained wealth order to shine a light on Trump’s shadowy dealings.”

On Tuesday, Eric Trump hit back. “Patrick Harvie is nothing more than a national embarrassment with his pathetic antics that only serve himself and his political agenda,” he said. “If Harvie and the rest of the Scottish government continue to treat overseas investors like this, it will deter future investors from conducting business in Scotland, ultimately crushing their economy, tourism and hospitality industries.”

Harvie is actually an opposition member of the Scottish parliament, with the Greens holding just five seats.

“At a critical time when politicians should be focused on saving lives and reopening businesses in Scotland, they are focused on advancing their personal agendas,” Eric Trump added. “As a company, The Trump Organization has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into the Scottish economy, rescued Turnberry, a Scottish national treasure on the brink of collapse and rebuilt it into one of the finest resorts anywhere in the world. In both Aberdeen and Turnberry, the Trump Organization has created thousands of jobs and has made an overwhelming contribution to the leisure and tourism industry.

US prosecutors are investigating the Trump Organization’s finances and Trump’s tax liabilities, with significant loans to Trump by Deutsche Bank worth about $340m (£249m) that become repayable in 2023 and 2024. The Trump Organization has always been adamant that its Scottish golf courses were bought without any external financing. However, the New York Times reported that in 2016, during the presidential campaign, Trump sought a further loan from Deutsche Bank to fund his refurbishment of Turnberry, using his Doral resort in Miami as collateral.

[From The Guardian]

Despite Eric Trump’s delusional claims, the Trump family’s Scottish golf properties only employ about 625 staffers, some of whom were already let go because of the pandemic. And the Trumps have not paid any corporate tax in Scotland. All Eric Trump did was draw attention to all of this. I’ll admit, of all the Trump scandals, I understand that the financial crimes are probably what will end this family, but I’ve always found so much of it confusing. I don’t get why Deutsche Bank largely propped up Trump, well before his “presidency,” and I don’t understand how overextended Trump really is financially. I mean, the dude is mostly broke and has been for years, but he continued to get these massive loans which he never had to pay back. So yes, there should be an investigation and I applaud the Scottish peeps for getting the ball rolling.

Patrick Harvie’s response to Eric Trump’s statement tonight: “As entertaining as Eric Trump’s tantrum is, he doesn’t say where his dad got the money to buy his Scottish golf courses, which is exactly why I’m calling on the Scottish Government to seek an Unexplained Wealth Order.” https://t.co/XJRBPMKno3

Here is the post for today’s 2021 Golden Globe nominations for TELEVISION. Considering most people have spent the past year endlessly streaming TV shows on Netflix, Prime, Hulu and Disney+, I think the TV noms are probably of greater interest to many people, and as such, they feel more chaotic! Note: there are about one million TV categories and I’m not including them all, so you can see the full list here at Variety. One thing to note for the Bridgerton fans… Bridgerton wasn’t eligible for this year’s Globes nominations. That show will be eligible for next year’s Globes. Here are the big TV nominations:

I was expecting Emily in Paris, even though most people thought that show was so stupid. I loved Ted Lasso and I think Jason Sudeikis could very well end up sweeping the Best Actor awards this year, that’s how lovely and loveable he is in that role. The Crown’s nominations are no surprise, and I’m glad that Josh O’Connor was recognized for his stellar work, frankly, as Prince Charles. I also think Emma Corrin should win over Olivia Colman, but that probably won’t happen. What else? I haven’t seen The Great, but I’m happy to see those nominations, it looks like an interesting series. The Undoing got a bunch of noms but I’m not sure it deserved it. Except for Hugh Grant, who was terrific.
