Trump Departure for Alamo, Texas

CNN has a long story about Donald Trump’s last days in office, where he is isolated, angry and in need of a diaper change, one would assume. Much of the piece is just typical sad-sack sh-t making Trump look pathetic, but even then… there’s this energy like Donald Trump didn’t send a terrorist mob to kill Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi and others in Congress. This is NOT typical sad-sack lame-duck sore loser sh-t. Just because Trump has been largely neutered following the terrorist attack he orchestrated and incited, doesn’t mean any of us should have one iota of sympathy for his current bullsh-t. Some highlights:

Trump is playing the role of victim & he’s banned the name “Nixon”. Trump has been consumed by the unraveling of his presidency during his last days in office, according to people around him, which included a casual discussion among advisers recently about a possible resignation. Trump shut the idea down almost immediately. And he has made clear to aides in separate conversations that mere mention of President Richard Nixon, the last president to resign, were banned. He told one adviser during an expletive-laden conversation recently never to bring up the ex-president ever again. During the passing mention of resigning this week, Trump told people he couldn’t count on Vice President Mike Pence to pardon him like Gerald Ford did Nixon, anyway.

One last Nazi rally? Eager for a final taste of the pomp of being president, Trump has asked for a major send-off on Inauguration Day next week, according to people familiar with the matter, before one last presidential flight to Palm Beach.

Sullen desolation. He has grown more and more worried about what legal or financial calamities may await him when he is no longer president, people who have spoken to him said, fueled by warnings from lawyers and advisers. He is weighing pardons, including for himself and his family, as he attempts to muster a legal team for another impeachment trial. And he is resentful of Republicans who he feels abandoned him in his hour of need, including the GOP leaders of the House and Senate.

A farewell Nazi address? Aides have pleaded with Trump to deliver some type of farewell address, either live or taped, that would tick through his accomplishments in office. But he has appeared disinterested and noncommittal. On Thursday, it was Pence carrying out tasks ordinarily left to a president, like visiting national guardsmen posted at the US Capitol or visiting White House operators to say farewell.

Trump does plan to leave the White House on the morning of the 20th: As one of their final acts, Trump’s team is working to organize a crowd to see him off on the morning of Biden’s inauguration, when he plans to depart Washington while still president and is expecting a major send-off. Trump told people he did not like the idea of departing Washington for a final time as an ex-president, flying aboard an airplane no longer known as Air Force One. He also did not particularly like the thought of requesting the use of the plane from Biden, according to a person familiar with the matter.

A letter to Biden? For now, Trump is undecided on whether he will pen a letter to Biden to leave in the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. Some of his advisers have encouraged him to think about continuing the tradition. Early in his presidency, Trump liked to show off to visitors the letter he received from President Barack Obama, which included the now-prescient line: “Regardless of the push and pull of daily politics, it’s up to us to leave those instruments of our democracy at least as strong as we found them.”

The original plan was to leave on the 19th: Initially, Trump had planned to depart the White House a day early. But he now plans to leave on the morning of January 20. His departure aboard Marine One from the White House South Lawn will likely be visible and audible to the Bidens, who will spend the night before the inauguration at Blair House, across Pennsylvania Avenue from the executive mansion. Its use was offered to them by the State Department rather than the Trumps, who refuse to make contact with the incoming president and first lady.

Will he still try to self-pardon? He has also been lashing out at aides, allies and lawyers trying to protect him from criminal exposure following his role in inciting rioters during last week’s insurrection attempt at the US Capitol. Some of his attorneys have tried to explain that his notion of a self-pardon may not hold up, which has led some inside Trump’s circle to believe he is less likely to attempt it before he leaves office.

Out of all of the niceties extended from an outgoing president to an incoming president, the letter on the Resolute Desk is one of the least important. If he does “write” one, I can only imagine the chicken-scratched, illiterate lies within. As for comparisons to Nixon… like, not to be a Nixon apologist, but Nixon wasn’t a f–king terrorist. He was a deeply corrupt man, but at a fundamental level, the dude was competent and intelligent and he had a sense of shame. Trump has none of that. I’m worried about Trump’s insistence on a final Nazi rally, and all of that as well. He’ll probably try to incite another terrorist attack.

As we discussed, Rep. Mikie Sherrill has been sounding the alarm all week that she believes several Republican Congressmen were providing reconnaissance tours to the MAGA terrorists ahead of the Capitol siege. James Clyburn and several prominent Democrats believe the same, that Congressional Republicans provided material aid and intelligence to terrorists. Add to that, there are several freshmen Republicans who seem to believe that they should be able to carry guns in the Capitol, and on the floor of the House. Those same freshmen are throwing fits about going through metal detectors and being frisked by Capitol Police. So here we are: Congressional Democrats are deeply worried that their Republican colleagues will try to kill them.

After last week’s deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump, members of Congress are expressing something once unthinkable: that some of their own colleagues may be endangering their lives. Not in a rhetorical sense, but in a direct and immediate way.

“It’s the most poisonous I’ve ever seen,” Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., said in an interview. “There’s the overall sense that maybe if some of them have guns — and likely the ones who are more into conspiracy theories and QAnon with the pedophilic satanic rings — are we safe from them?”

Since the deadly riot Jan. 6, lawmakers have suggested — not, so far, backed up by evidence — that far-right colleagues may have helped plan or guide the attack. There are particular concerns about some newly elected members who have espoused extremist views, including comments supportive of the QAnon lie that accuses perceived enemies of Trump of being part of a child-abusing cult. One House freshman is pushing to carry firearms on Capitol grounds, and another recounts being armed during the attack, further putting their colleagues on edge. With the support of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., security officials have installed metal detectors outside the House floor, causing tension among some Republicans and effectively suggesting that members themselves may pose a danger.

Democrats are outraged at 147 Republicans who they say abided by the rioters’ calls and voted to overturn the election results even after the violent attack, which left five people dead and forced lawmakers to hide in their offices and safe rooms. But, Beyer said, the issue “that has the greater emotional impact is the sense that there’s perhaps actual physical danger from our colleagues.”

With lawmakers traumatized, hundreds of members of the National Guard sleeping in congressional hallways and warnings from authorities about continued threats, suspicion and rumor are running rampant.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has said she feared for her life, in part because she doubted the motives of unnamed colleagues who were sheltering with her. “There were QAnon and white supremacist sympathizers, and frankly white supremacist members of Congress, in that extraction point who I have felt would disclose my location and would create opportunities to allow me to be hurt, kidnapped, etc.,” Ocasio-Cortez, a highly visible progressive and frequent target of conservative media, said in a speech Tuesday streamed live on Instagram.

A trio of GOP freshmen have drawn particular attention and concern from colleagues: Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Some lawmakers have suggested that Boebert, a Second Amendment advocate and past QAnon sympathizer, may have deliberately revealed Pelosi’s location during the attack on Twitter. Boebert also tweeted “Today is 1776? the morning of the rally.

Yeah, keep your eye on Boebert, Cawthorn and Greene. But I feel like we should also expand our view past them too – it would not surprise me whatsoever if Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, their staffs or other senators also provided material aid and intelligence to the terrorists, and I wouldn’t put it past certain senators to actually try to physically harm their colleagues either. It’s not just a House problem, it’s a Republican death cult problem.

We’ve heard that four Congress people have tested positive for coronavirus after sheltering in place during the siege with Republicans who refused to wear masks – even when asked. One of the people who tested positive, Representative Adriano Espaillat D-NY, received his second dose of the Pfizer vaccine last week. He tweeted that he’s isolating and that he’s not experiencing symptoms, which is consistent with what we’ve heard from studies. People may still test positive for coronavirus after being vaccinated, but they’re asymptomatic or only have mild symptoms. It’s unclear whether people who have received the shots can transmit it to others, making mask-wearing still important. People Magazine has an explainer for how long immunity takes with both of the approved vaccines. It’s about five to six weeks to reach 95% immunity after the first shot, as long as you get the second shot on time. Their expert emphasizes that we still need to wear masks after getting vaccinated.

How much protection does each dose provide?
After one dose of either Pfizer or Moderna’s vaccine, a person has around 50 percent immunity to COVID-19, and the second dose brings it up to about 95 percent.

Is each dose immediately effective?
Not quite — the body needs time to build up its response.

“Your immune system starts to kick in, but to really get to the peak efficacy that we all know as 95 percent, it’s going to take two weeks after your second dose,” Bristow says. That means that people who get the Pfizer vaccine can expect to be at 95 percent immunity five weeks after their first injection, and those with Moderna will reach that point six weeks later.

Can you still get COVID-19 after a first or second dose of a vaccine?
Yes, because “your protection doesn’t happen immediately,” she says. “It’s going to take two doses in time to get to the 95 percent efficacy. And especially after the first dose, it’s not going to happen immediately that you are then protected from symptomatic COVID.”

That’s why there are reports of people contracting COVID-19, even after getting their first dose of a vaccine.

“It’s been frustrating seeing those stories from a science communication standpoint, because those are happening within the first week of someone getting their first dose,” Bristow says.

Can I stop wearing a mask and see friends and family again after I’m fully vaccinated?
Unfortunately, not yet.

“We need to keep wearing masks to protect the people around us,” Bristow says. “There’s still a question of if the vaccine stops transmission of COVID, or just stops people from getting symptomatic COVID. That’s something that is being looked at right now, so we want to operate under the assumption, just out of pure safety, that vaccinated people could still get asymptomatic COVID and spread it to others.”

Honestly I’m reporting on this because I want to focus on the fact that vaccines are coming and relief is in sight. My mom got vaccinated this week (she had to wait five hours in her car in Florida) and some of my friends who are frontline workers have been vaccinated. Biden’s speech last night gave me so much hope that they’re fast tracking the rollout. I keep telling myself that I’ll be able to get vaccinated in about two months and that I just need to hang in there. I know it will be another few weeks to achieve immunity, but I’m ok with that.

Every time I go out, without fail, I see people without masks indoors. It’s stressful and anxiety-inducing and I am considering having my groceries delivered until I’m vaccinated. The new mutation is so much more contagious and this is only going to get worse before it gets better. There’s hope though, and it will be a relief to go out in a fabric mask instead of double masking with a KN95 mask and a visor. This constant anxiety may stop, but I’m still going to mask up and wash my hands constantly. I’m also excited to see my friends and family again. I’m not one of those people who has a large “bubble.” I haven’t seen anyone in person except my son in months.

Trump returns White House Cutting Short His Vacation

The general rule is that no matter what, the outgoing president invites the incoming president to the White House at least one time during the transition. Usually there’s a photo-op, perhaps a working lunch, and a private discussion of what happened during the campaign and what moves will be made going forward. There’s also an unwritten transition protocol with the First Ladies – usually the outing FLOTUS will invite her successor to the White House, show her the East Wing space and perhaps the residence and maybe even introduce some of the WH residence staff. Obviously, Donald Trump is too much of a suckbaby loser to show one iota of grace in defeat. But did you know that Melania Trump is also too lazy, too stupid and too cruel to even extent the barest of curtesies to Dr. Jill Biden? It’s true. This CNN piece on Melania’s last days was a whole f–king journey. Some highlights:

Until Donald Trump tweeted that he wasn’t going to the inauguration, Mel didn’t know: Until that tweet, the White House staffer said, Melania Trump was not 100% sure she would be going to Biden’s inauguration, or wouldn’t be. “It’s not the first time she has learned what he was doing because he tweeted it before he told her,” said the source, who downplayed the significance of the first lady being delivered news about what is ostensibly her schedule too, based on Trump’s mood that particular day. The staffer, like many, was clear that the event with the tweet did not solicit their sympathy for the first lady. “She’s part of this. She can be silent, but she’s part of this,” the source said.

She still isn’t doing a damn thing: The outgoing first lady hasn’t done anything of significance as the weeks of her tenure come to a close. She hasn’t established an office for continuing her platform in the post-White House years, according to a source familiar with her activities. Nor has she helped with the onboarding of incoming first lady Jill Biden — with whom she has still not made contact, the source said. The only thing Trump has done, besides pack the White House, work on photo albums of her time as first lady and oversee photo shoots of a rug and decorative items, is make a convoluted statement about the events of last Wednesday, five days after they occurred.

Melania is aligned with her husband on most things: “She understands her husband and what he stands for, and it simply does not bother her,” said [FLOTUS historian] Brower. “She is not a victim and she will not leave the White House apologizing for her husband’s behavior.”

Mel has been packing up since Donald’s loss in November: The first lady is now more than halfway done with the job of shipping belongings either to Mar-a-Lago or to storage, having bit-by-bit overseen the moveout for weeks. The residence staff has had to help with the semi-clandestine operation, facilitating packing logistics without raising the ire of the President, who truly believed he would be staying put. “(Melania Trump) is not sad to be leaving,” said one White House official with knowledge of Trump’s mood.

She couldn’t even be bothered to invite the Bidens to stay at Blair House: On Wednesday, an announcement was made that Blair House, the historic official guest house of the White House where several Presidents (including Trump) have stayed overnight before their swearing-in, would welcome Biden to stay as well. CNN has previously reported Biden, without an invitation yet extended to him by the President and first lady for Blair House, intended to stay at a hotel on Inauguration eve. But the invitation was not sent at Melania Trump’s insistence. “She had nothing to do with it,” said the staffer. The invitation may have read “White House,” but it was issued via the State Department, whose Office of the Chief of Protocol oversees Blair House’s management.

So, in the end, Melania’s Be Best initiative is a lot like the Duchess of Cambridge’s Early Years initiative – just busy work to fluff up her image temporarily, with zero long term plans or goals or structure. There’s more than just laziness at play here – there’s the casual cruelty, the lack of empathy, the self-centeredness that belies the Trumps’ dual sociopathy. And to be clear, I doubt Dr. Biden is at all concerned with Mel’s lack of engagement or downright rudeness. Dr. Biden knows the White House, she spent eight years as the wife of a vice president. But we can be mad on Dr. Biden’s behalf, because Jill deserves the world. Melania is gutter trash.

I was waiting to see if one of Armie Hammer’s mistresses, girlfriends or victims (or all three) would give an interview. Before now, the stories of his abusive behavior and obsession with BDSM were mostly just copies of DMs which (frankly) were not all that verifiable. Now one of Hammer’s exes, 30-year-old Courtney Vucekovich, has spoken out to Page Six. Vucekovich dated Hammer from June to August last year, but she shrugs off the idea that she was behind any of the DM leaks to the “House of Effie,” which published a lot of submitted messages to and from Hammer’s other victims and girlfriends. She has seen the DMs and she says that none of them really surprise her, including the cannibalism messages. Vucekovich goes in further detail about Hammer’s weirdness and abusive behavior and a lot more. You can read the full Page Six piece here.

No really, Armie Hammer is into cannibalism: “He said to me he wants to break my rib and barbecue and eat it,” app founder Courtney Vucekovich exclusively told Page Six. “‘F–k that was weird,’ but you never think about it again. He says, ‘I want to take a bite out of you.’ If I had a little cut on my hand, he’d like suck it or lick it. That’s about as weird as we got.” [She says the cannibalism DMs didn’t shock her.] “He likes the idea of skin in his teeth,” she claims.

Her relationship with Hammer was not only weird and gross but also emotionally abusive. “He enters your life in such a big way. He’s such a captivating person. He has such a presence and he’s aware of that and he uses it in such a way that most women would think, ‘Oh my gosh, this is amazing,’ but especially young women, that’s kind of the scary part — how good he is at active manipulation and making you feel like he’s never felt this way about anybody. He quickly grooms you in the relationship. He kind of captivates you and while being charming, he’s grooming you for these things that are darker and heavier and consuming. When I say consuming, I mean mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, just everything.”

He’s an emotional vampire: Vucekovich claims Hammer is a “chameleon” who transforms into “exactly who you need him to be. He sucks out all the goodness you have left,” she said. “That’s what he did to me. I gave and gave and gave until it hurt.” Eventually, Hammer’s behavior turned “obsessive,” Vucekovich claims. At one point, she and Hammer spent three weeks together, 24/7, and when they weren’t together, she says, he would text her 100 times per day.

She wasn’t safe: “I wasn’t safe. He kind of makes it like, ‘I’m going to teach you things.’ I’m smarter than that, but where was I during that? I knew the whole time. I had this gut feeling the whole time that this was not right. He’s not well.” Vucekovich claims “The Social Network” actor would drink and do drugs “all the time,” which left her feeling compromised and scared. “He did some things with me that I wasn’t comfortable with. For God knows what reason, he convinced me that these things were OK and he put me in some dangerous situations where I was not OK, where he was heavily drinking, and I wasn’t drinking that way and it scared me. I didn’t feel comfortable. You end up doing things that are very out-of-character for you, including sex acts.”

She says he’s a profoundly broken man: “He makes you feel bad for him, and that’s really scary and keeps you [close to him],” she explained. At one point, Vucekovich found herself paying for everything, including gas for his truck, because he’s allegedly broke. “He needs you. He actually needs you. It’s a full-time job when you’re with him the way that I was. I was trying to catch my breath the entire time I was with him. You’re drowning in this dark hole trying to stay afloat. There will be random moments of good that convince you to stay.”

How it ended: Vucekovich said the relationship ended following an explosive fight and Hammer left. “He blows up [women’s] lives like that and walks away,” she said.

She needed help afterwards: She went into a 30-day partial hospitalization program for PTSD and trauma. “I didn’t want to carry that into my future,” she told Page Six. “As a strong mental health advocate, I knew that this relationship was something I needed to process with help from people who specialize in trauma and PTSD. That is my experience.”

Whew. I believe her. Lies, emotional abuse, sexual sadism, cannibalism, alcohol abuse, financial abuse and all of that in a mere three-month relationship which left a 30 year old woman so traumatized that she had to go into intensive therapy. I’m sure a professional psychiatrist could do a better job diagnosing him, but the sexual sadism definitely leaps out as a big indicator of a massive, dangerous pathology at play.

We got a confirmation from People Magazine last month that despite all of the dramas, bullying and shady behavior, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex exchanged Christmas gifts with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Many people believed the gift exchange was probably more about the kids, and I agree, but I enjoyed the thought of Harry and Meghan gifting Will and Kate with a lifetime Netflix subscription, or perhaps a bag of Clevr Blends lattes. Anything to twist the knife in a fun, shady way. Well, Kate’s 39th birthday was last weekend, and she reportedly had a lowkey celebration at Anmer Hall, enjoying a little tea party with her kids. As it turns out, Meghan and Harry might have sent her some birthday gifts too?

The sweetest treat! Duchess Kate received a special surprise from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as she marked her 39th birthday on Saturday, January 9.

The Duchess of Cambridge had a “low-key” celebration with Prince William, Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2, a source exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. After speaking with her parents and Queen Elizabeth II, Kate was taken aback when she saw the thoughtful card and gifts she got from her brother-in-law, 36, and the Suits alum, 39. “It was a nice surprise,” the source says. “Kate wasn’t expecting anything from the couple.”

Later on, Kate was showered with presents from William, 39, including diamond and sapphire earrings, “which she loves.”

I wonder if Kate was surprised at the gifts because she and William likely didn’t send anything to Meghan for her birthday last year? I doubt they sent anything to Harry for his birthday last September either. It’s pretty typical of Meghan especially to still maintain generosity and grace towards people who have treated her poorly. That being said, I hope the gifts were shady. I hope Meghan picked out the weirdest ‘80s blouse with 100 buttons and shoulder pads and sent that along. And yes, I do think Meghan is probably sending Clevr Blends lattes to people now, and I would guess that Kate got a bag. LOL.

As for William getting Kate some expensive earrings… I doubt he paid for those. He probably went “shopping” in the Royal Collection, or he grabbed one of his mother’s old earring sets. Either that or Kate just picked out what she wanted and she charged it to Charles’ credit card. William has never seemed like the kind of man who showers his wife with jewelry or gifts.

Biden Remarks on “the Public Health and Economic Crises”

President Joe Biden did a big address yesterday evening about the pandemic and the economic crisis he’s inheriting. As Donald Trump literally sits around, doing absolutely nothing but wallowing in self-pity, Biden is being held to the standard of “get everything right and fix everything starting on 12:01 pm on January 20th.” Biden has been in government for decades so he knows how all of this works, so he’s proposing a huge $1.9 trillion pandemic/economic stimulus package, and that was a big part of his speech last night:

Among Biden’s proposals in the package: $1400 economic relief checks, which combined with the $600 checks Congress passed weeks ago will total $2000 in the hands of taxpayers immediately. There’s so much to be done about the pandemic and the vaccine rollout as well. We’re still in the hard pandemic winter, and this week has seen the coronavirus death toll skyrocket, with more than 4000 people dying a day from the virus and hundreds of thousands of new infections in recent weeks. A core component of Biden’s proposed package will involve vaccine production and distribution, focused on getting as many people their first corona vaccine ASAP and having faith that a ramped up production schedule will produce the “second shot” in time. Biden wants more vaccine distribution centers and he’s being urged to authorize the military to help coordinate vaccine distribution and vaccinations.

Biden also wants to expand unemployment benefits and paid sick leave and he wants to raise the federal minimum wage. He also has a complicated scheme to help schools reopen, but I think so much of the education crisis is just going to be dependent on vaccines.

As for the inauguration and everything around it, the Biden Inaugural Committee has needed to change and modify their plans a million times already. According to WaPo, “the only in-person events will be the swearing-in, a troop review and a military escort from the Capitol to the White House afterward.” The actual swearing-in ceremony will be as “normal” as possible, with VIPs on the dais seated with social-distancing protocols. There won’t be a Congressional lunch feting the new president, nor will there be the regular in-person balls and parties hosted by various groups and donors.

Talk about rewarding bad behavior. According to Page Six, Phil Collins’ house-stealing ex, Orienne Cevey, could be on a revived Real Housewives of Miami. Orienne, you may remember, was awarded the largest divorce settlement in Britain’s history. It all made for very salacious gossip, only to be outdone by their scandalous second bustup, which is currently happening. Phil and Orienne reconciled, but didn’t remarry and were living together in Miami. Last summer, Orienne left for Vegas and got remarried to her lover, Thomas Bates. Perhaps you noticed I never mentioned that Phil and Orienne spilt because they hadn’t! And to make matters worse, Orienne and Thomas took possession of Phil’s Miami mansion and refused to leave, claiming he promised half of it to her (he didn’t). So she married another man while still living with Phil and then stole his house – no, wait, I see it now. This is perfect Housewife fodder.

The “Real Housewives of Miami” could be heading back to TV.

A source tells Page Six that Bravo is “revisiting” the series and is in “preliminary conversations for a potential return,” to the Florida hotspot.

The show initially ran just three seasons, from 2011-2013 and included cast members Larsa Pippen and Lisa Hochstein.

According to the source, the reboot could include some former cast members, as well as Phil Collins’ ex Orianne Cevey — who has been going through a long series of legal proceedings with the pop icon over his multimillion-dollar Miami manse.

Sources said that the cast of the reboot could also include singer Paulina Rubio.

Back in November, Andy Cohen revealed on the “Everything Iconic” podcast that he was trying to get NBCUniversal — which owns Bravo — to pick up a new season of the show for the NBC streaming service Peacock.

I feel like I need to go on record saying that I am wholly opposed to anyone receiving a lucrative TV deal because they acted like an @$$hole. In Orienne’s case, she’s playing a high end grift because she probably blew through her divorce cash and can’t seem to make her own money. Phil is by no means any form of saint, but he did not cheat this time and he was publicly humiliated when Orienne started showing up with her boytoy at parties. Plus, there are kids involved. Not young kids, but one of their sons is still technically a minor and has already had to watch his mother embarrass herself in the media. Now he’ll have to watch her antics on RHOM as well.

That said, Mieka at DListed makes a good point – Miami is about to inherit a whole host of potential cast members so messy, Andy’s probably already referring to them as the Dream Team. Larsa Pippen may come back, and she attracts drama like cat hair to dark pants. I’m not familiar with Paulina Rubio, but her Wiki page reads like a Bravo bio so she’ll fit in.
